The first Dragon Wars was originally going to be BT4 (he made BT3) but EA wouldn't cough up the rights. So they had to change everything shortly before release.

Brian Fargo had some kind of falling out with this person years ago and refused to have him back for Wasteland 2 or Bard's Tale 4. That's why this Dragon Wars 2 Kickstarter is happening - out of butthurt.

Yeah, if I remember right, he/she held the final version of BT3 hostage shortly before release to renegotiate a contract or something.
