Well, i'm the owner of a Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2 3 4... I've been considering buying a 3DSXL due to some games that looks like badass or great to play... The ones in my aim are,in priority from "YES!!!" to "Last"

NOTE: I'm from spain, we don't have SMT IV YET. Yes, i'm a "Persona" lover (1 partially, P3P and P4G)

-Phoenix Wright 5
-SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI SOUL HACKERS
-SMT IV
-Persona Q
-MONSTER HUNTER 3 ULTIMATE (Then 4U)
-Pokemon X
-And perhaps some other game that might come out in the future that it'll be worth

The "fear" i have is that i might regret the buy if i buy it for perhaps being or not what i've expected or something, or that the console might end up collecting dust in my room or that the games i get ends up being short or something.

I had the WiiU in mind too for Mario Kart 8 and some other games, but 3DSXL has a bigger library actually..And kinda regretted getting the Wii in the past (it's there, collecting dust again after i undusted it 2 weeks ago and raped Sonic Colours , Zelda Twilight Princess (With some guide help...) and DKCR from my pirated external HDD)

...Knowing i have the consoles above and listing the wishlist from the 3DSXL's games....Is it worth getting it,or should i just save up money for something else?. If you guys needs any kind of details please let me know ASAP...And give out reasons, not just a simple "Yes" ^^;..

Thanks in advance...And for god's sake,NO TROLLING.

If you're worried about regret of ANY kind, then get a 3DSXL that has FW4.5 or lower. At least then you can by a Gateway 3DS flash cart and get the games for free. You can use the emunand function to run later FWs from flast cart rather than from internal flash memory, so if you do still want to buy games you can, but you'd have the option to "acquire" them too, thus negating any possible buyer's remorse Wink

That's the problem. It comes down to smart shopping or just plain old blind luck.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/where-to-get-a-firmware-4-5-or-below-3ds-xl.352360/
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/3DS_hacking_faq#Can_you_check_the_System_version_before_buying_a_new_3DS.3F

Buying preowned is a guaranteed way of finding out, since the seller will be able to tell you - or if you buy a pawn shop you can check for yourself. The other way is looking at the serial number.

Well fuck you too! Very Happy

I'll check the serial number then. Though i've seen these "DSTWO" cards around on forums that are avaliable with the supposed "latest firmware" (Wich is...errr 7.1?) compatibility.. But again, i'm from Spain, aka PAL Territory.

Y U No????

Yeah, most any DS-level flash cart will work on the 3DS regardless of FW version but that's only for the DS mode, not 3DS. As of right now there are *no* working 3DS flash carts for FWs above 4.5.0. You can use emunand to run FW7.1 from the flashcart, but your device itself will still be on 4.5.0. Oh and if/when you do get a system, make sure to get Gateway 3DS - it's the most expensive one but it's the *only* 100% working one too, the others either have issues loading certain games, or they lack other functionality.

...I don't care much about 3DS piracy for now, since if some has online gaming i like,i'd like to play them without bricking the system.

Would that mean that,if i bought a 3DSXL (Blue) and update it to the latest version,i could still get a DS Card (Cart as in cartridge?) to play olskool DS games into it?..Well,that'd rock..A LOT.....That,if whenever you go into sleep mode you can recover from it (else SUCKS...that's what i've heard from google)

Note that i'd like a card that allows having muuuuuultiple games in it ,so i don't have to change cards here and there..."For a simple game"..And ofcourse being able to save games too,duh ¬¬;

Thanks in advance.

The best thing about the 3DS flashcart is emuNAND which reads the FW from the flashcart, which means you have no risk of bricking your system whilst maintaining online/eShop access. If you update your sysNAND (the real system firmware) then you cannot get back to 4.5.0 and lose the ability to play 3DS ROMs. You can still use DS mode flashcarts for playing DS classic ROMS though Smile

Oh and yes, Gateway allows multiple 3DS ROMs from a single SD card now. DS mode flashcarts have always had that functionality.

Have in mind though that 7.0+ FW added new encryption keys (kinda like with PS3 3.55+ FW...) where even when using emuNAND on the latest FW, it will fail to load these new keys.

Nintendo got smart and have the keys stored in a part of the NAND that isn't loaded when booting emuNAND (emuNAND is still using some sysNAND 4.5.0 core stuff to be loaded).

So far there is only 1 game that uses the new encryption, but I bet you that from now on, most games will use it : similar to Sony with PSN updates back then, if a game uses an old SDK, then they will encrypt the game with the old keys. If it's using the 7.X SDK, then new keys.

So yeah so far only 1 7.0 SDK game, most are still using 4.X (!!!) SDK, some even 2.0 still (Laughing), but maybe Nintendo will force dev to catch on.

It should be possible to dump the new keys though (but really complicated, I mean really), I wouldn't be surprised that Gateway updates their cart one day or another... like they always did.

Well, what i'd look for is for DS Emulation on the 3DSXL, i don't think i'd like to fuck my console up by trying the 3DS "emulation"..Besides,we might need fixes and stuff in newer revisions, right?

So...Wich card or Cart (Whatever) should i pick up (Ofcourse, one compatible with XL's newest firmware and being able to put loads of DS games in it) if i ever end up with an XL in my hands?..Exact model serial etc ^^;....Also,do i need an special adapter to transfer stuff or..?..I have an SD/MicroSD adapter by Hama wich works, for now.

Thanks in advance,Sab.

You can't brick with gateway and you can play ds Roms too. There is no 3ds emulation either. And you can even play backups online.

Well, back from job. Didn't bought it (yet?) but was able to get a complete hands-on with the Red 3DSXL. Though i don't know how much time it has been there, i made sure to check the serial below the console, wich has: SEF101765822 and whenever i've checked the FW it was 6.1.0.. I guess it's that because it's a console used to show to the clients or if a client has a trouble with a game and they popped it in the job's console and POOF, FW Update from cartridge!

Sadly, i couldn't find any signs of serial number in the EUROPEAN BOXES and ,now that i'm typing, i've checked google for "Find serial number box 3DSXL" and guess what?, the place where the serial's supposed to be appeard "BLANK",WHITE,NOTHING WRITTEN IN IT...I think...I could double check again if i go at another shop today buuuuut...Damn you Nintendo, you sure know how to TROLL at the very last moment.

Just a question...,and please answer it: I've heard rumours that, depending of the flash cart or card,WHATEVER, if you play a DS ROM in a 3DSXL with a Card/cart..Whenever you put the console to SLEEP (or whatever it's called), it might NOT WAKE UP AGAIN... If that ever happens, what would that mean?, Brick or "fuck you, wait until battery uncharges" or what?

Thanks in advance

While thinking of all this shit, this song plays in my head (at 0:53)

PS: If i buy,for example, SMT SOUL HACKERS,along with the console, and this one asks me to update....What should i do?, ignore and get butthurt,or...Just wait for a card/t?..Or simply update to latest version and just enjoy then DS emu time? X_X;...

I never encountered any issue with the 3ds not waking up when playing ds games.

Got a link to that "Cart"?..Also,if possible, shippable to Spain.

Though to be honest,i might just get the console, update it to the max ver, then get a DS emu card. Any genuine ones out there that are trustworthy?

Ok,i've went to a different shop from the chain shops i work at, and grabbed a 3DSXL (NOT BUYED IT..yet?) and there was the serial in the left? side of the box (We're talking PAL), and it was below the 1153 serial.. a "SEF1070" i think it was. Guess that should be ok?

Now i've have to find a proper tutorial to pirate the console. A few years ago i was able to pirate my Wii (YES) and put The Homebrew Channel (oh that channel song <3) and uLoader...It tooked me like a couple of hard intensified hours to do the shit correctly with the fear in my body grinhurt.

After nearly 10 games played and beated (Only Metroid Prime Trilogy and Resident Evil 0 to finish, though i prefer doing RE0..i might hate MPT),i was thinking, "Would the pirate process be kind of as easy as the Wii one...?"

Dear Sabin, i've read you mentioned "GATEWAY 3DS" and been looking at a spanish forum for proper installation... Then thing is...Does it makes the console to share 2 firmwares?...the Console one (Bought games?) and the Gateway 3DS one?.

Anyways, the tutorial says to have a MicroSD (For the piracy and SINGLE? ROM loading), SD Card (For gamesaving?) and both Blue/Red GW3DS "Cart"s and the "OMEGA 2.2 FW":

This is the tutorial, seems easy but "scary". Let me know if it's "Accurate" (Translator?). http://www.elotrolado.net/hilo_tutorial-instalar-gateway-2-2-omega_1995816

Now i have some questions regarding this:

1.You can only load 1 ROM in the MicroSDHC? (Class 10?,8-16GB?)
2.Can you save your games in a typical SD Card?
3.You have to load the Getaway 3DS Mode (acts like The Homebrew Channel, right?) everytime to access the games?
4.Is there a way to prevent the console to access internet so i don't accidentally install any updates?
5.Can you install both the 3DS and DS "emulators" in the SAME microSDHC and sharing their contents without having to buy 2 microSDHCs,one for each emulator?

Anything else i should know before i possibly enter into big shit problematic territory?

Thanks in advance..And sorry for sounding like a crybaby ^^; Okay

I'm sorry mate, I'm away from home right now and won't be back at my computer for a couple of weeks. I'm on my phone right now and won't be able to help you with anything that requires research and typing, haha. There's plenty of info online, specifically places like GBAtemp. Just google for stuff like "gateway 3ds tutorial" or "beginners guide" - and cyclone knows way more about this than I do.

I can tell you one thing though; the "single rom" stuff is old hat now, Gateway has had multi-rom from the same SD for ages now.

1.You can have as many roms as your micro sd card can store. Simply press select to get the list of games in gateway mode.

2. Yep, save games goes to the sd card after hitting home and close when done playing. be sure to save in game first.

3. For roms, yes. But classic mode for retail games with higher update requirement than 4.5

4.Disable wireless for one, and every update you get a warning so just be careful and read about the update to see if it's safe to update it.

5.I'm gonna go ahead and assume you meant store roms for both 3ds and ds on the same card. I'm pretty sure you can, but don't take my word for it. you have to reinstall gateway profile again after each time you play ds games to access emunand again though. Silly inconvenience i'd wish they could sort out.

1. WOOOOHOO
2. Ahhh so good... Home and Close?..Is that hibernation/Sleep mode?.. Perhaps i should "Save the game via game itself, then press home/close the 3DSXL to enter sleep mode, saving in a2nd temporary file or...?

3.Ouchie....Classic Mode?

4.Ok

5.Re-install gateway profile for DS Games?!...Well,that sure FUCKING SUCKS... And if you overwrite gateway wouldn't that mean a kind of possible bricking?

Close is just close application. A button to exit the game. Not physically closing the lid. You're never required to do that.

Gateway has 2 modes: Gateway mode for roms, and classic mode for playing retail games so that you can use online functions and play with friends. No ouchies to be had here, it's pretty cool.

No, you must reinstall for 3ds games after using it for ds. You can access your ds games anytime by using the blue cartridge.

1.So it's the typical "Save game in the game, Home and Close whenever you're tired. If ya need a lil break, Sleep Mode (How do you do that btw?)"

2.Hmmmmm interesting...However,i'm not much of an online person (Unless we talk Monster Hunter style...wich i never tried grinhurt)

3.So if you're playing 3DS games , close the application/game, then start the process to enter getaway and play ANOTHER 3DS game, there's NO NEED to reinstall,right?...Only do it whenever you've played a DS game and want to play a 3DS one. However, if you play a DS game then PLAY ANOTHER DS GAME....Do you have to reinstall or..?

Thanks ^^

Well, i just close the lid when i'm tired and open and resume when i want. Only issue i can see is if i'm careless and let the battery run out. Then i'd lose many hours of progress Razz

But as said, be sure to save in game before pressing the home button and closing the game.

And yes, only reinstall the gateway when you have been playing a ds game, but you can play 3ds games however you want. Close a game and play another.
