I am going to buy a new Crucial SSD, it comes with Acronis true image. According to reviews it's easy peasy to clone a current SSD to a new one. How does it handle two partitions on one drive though? My SSD has a windows part and a games part. Does the SW make partitions on the new drive automatically with correct partition sizes?

Does cloning a normal HDD to a new SSD (different size drives, single partition) also work that easy?

Acronis does everything, even copies disk's unique id. So you will have to reset unique id on old drive after cloning it to SSD.

Apparently I need to connect the new drive to the system while cloning. That's going to be a problem for the laptop. The Acronis knowledge base says the old drive needs to be connected via USB. How would I connect an internal drive via USB?

Can I just take out the laptop HDD, connect to my PC and clone it to the old SSD on my PC?

- To connect internal drive to USB, you will need to use USB enclosures or adapter cables.

- Yes, you can clone on other PC. Make sure you won't boot from laptop drive on PC as windows will start installing all new motherboard drivers and will probably fuck it up.

EDIT: Just to be safe, connect sata data cable before booting PC and connect power cable to the drive after windows is ready to use.
