Hi

Normally It is seen that all the games except those DVD versions are released in .bin/.cue formats . When I tried to convert some of them to .iso formats , It is found that the size reduces considerably from some 800 Mb to 650 MB in some case. So

1. Is there any problem , to convert all my .bin/.cue games to .iso formats ?
2. If not , then why do the release groups stick to .bin/.cue formats rather than the smaller .iso ones. ?

Let me explain it by an eg:

The CD1 of SRS.Street.Racing-Reloaded is almost 700 MB and when i convert it into .iso, it's size is only 600 MB. ie i can gain 100 MB on just I CD .

and that 200 MB would mean much to my 20GB HDD , you know ?

@SycoShaman : I didnt get that reliability point , Can you please eloaborate it?

An ISO file only keeps the data channels if i'm correct, where as a bin file takes everything off the disc and puts it in bin(ary) file, then the cue file is there so the selected program knows where and what kind of stuff starts @ various parts in the file. The best example is if you make an iso of one of those older CD's for games that had the game data, then some normal CDFS music on it. The ISO wouldnt be able to hold the music I beleive.

Thats all just guessing though, but I think i'm pretty much correct.

Exactly , now that you say , I remember I did see some cue files (i think Emergency 3 ) with multiple track data written on it . In such a case , i think converting to .iso format would be problematic but for the normal ones , it should do make no difference

Please correct me if I am wrong .. Confused

rofl. Converting a bin of 800 mb to an iso of 600 mb to gain some free space?

never wondered where those 200 mb went? use your brains mate. Data cannot disappear.

Also you can have a lot of problems with booting from the cd when you do it by converting first to iso.

Bin/cue has still some protection schemes in it, but you can write it that way on a cd. There is a big chance that winiso(or similar prog u use) to convert to iso doesnt understand it, and fux things up a bit.

You may do ROFL . The 200Mb space may seem small for someone but when it is a 80GB Hard Disc full of .bin files , I'll left the math for "someone".

Have you ever wondered why did I post the doubt here ? and that'll be the answer.

And this is the answer I wanted . Thanks mate .
