As you may know, i have a race car, in which i spend a lot of money since its my only hobby and activity.

Some months ago i fucked up the engine, fixed it, and it failed again. So i bought a RB25 Skyline engine. Dream engine to me.

Did a lot of work to finally get it working on my car.

Today i go out, left my laptop at home (only means of reading my water temperature) and TODAY of all fucking days, the only day i left the laptop at home, i blew a water hose, lost all water and overheated the engine to hell.

Drove like 20 milles without water, even heard it detonating (knock). Engine got so hot that it wouldnt crank more than 1 turn.

Fixed the hose, put water in it and everything seems fine, liquids, power etc. But i cant shake the imagination of having scratched the pistons and cylinder walls.

OMG im gonna hate myself sooo long if i damaged this engine. Crying or Very sad

Perhaps engine modification just isn't for you? If only these things were cheap it would be worth the risk.
I blew out an engine once and once I replaced I've been going extremely easy on it ever since. the thought of modifying anything is out of the question.

have you ever heard people saying "you learn on your own mistakes?" Smile yeah, that's true.

and usually the more costly the mistake, the better lesson you get.
You'll be more careful next time Smile

"Oh noes I broke the engine of my racing car" is most definitely NOT a 3rd world problem though

Psss, u jelly? Very Happy

Ahh dont bring that to me Mad You have to enjoy something, so i dont drink, i dont go out, i dont buy expensive luxuries, etc etc, i just support my family and i buy stuff for my car (expenses which i plan and manage extremely well J Browman ), all of which i do it myself so i save a LOT of money on mechanics and stuff. I manage.

Soo it seems i dodged a bullet, compression on the engine looks good, coolant still not mixed with oil, oil looks ok still. Only random puffs of white smoke and water on the tailpipe, but since its been raining all day i cant be sure if its the engine or ambient condensation. Awesome I haz faith!

Piston rings probably just need to be replaced, check to see if its burning any extra oil that it shouldn't. I'm not too familiar with Nissan motors being a Rotary / Honda guy. But it sounds like O-Rings.

Yeah im pretty sure i have some damage in cylinder 3, i will re-do compression tests in hot conditions, as my test was done in a cold engine.

170-165 average in all cylinders, 150 on cylinder 3, added oil to cyl 3, raising comp to 175.

Ill test again once the weather stabilizes as its been raining all week.

Why don't you put an additional water temp gauge?
Like you put oil temp, oil pressure and turbo boost.

How much does it cost to replace the rotors of a RX-8, and on how many KM do you change them?

Any news on the new RENESIS/16x (Sky R) engine?

*Lopin has dodged the atack*

Sunny day, ran the engine to its temp, no signs of failures anywhere, compression is good as hell, 180 across the cylinders.

Being an avid rotary fan I check all my forums etc daily. And there is nothing but rumors at the moment on the next Rotary. Mazda has had some financial issues since Ford sold all their stake in Mazda, but they are doing better. They have a new CEO who is more about business then passion of cars. But, he did say there is still hope for a new rotary, also, rumors still say Mazda will reveal the new RX7 in 2017. Only time can tell.

As for the 13B-Renesis, this is hard to answer I've seen Rotary' in general go up to 300K KM plenty of times, it's just all about how well you take care of them, being small motors they are pretty much like a 2stroke engine so you need to change the oil quite often, and also some people pre-mix (mixing oil and gas) like a two stroke just for reliability, but that can get pricey. As long as you take care of it, and do proper tuneups changing your oil etc. It should take good care of you.

The price for a rebuild can differ as well. A rotor can go for 250$USD Used 700$USD new, but that's if the rotor needs to be replaced. They generally don't. What gets expensive if it needs a rebuild because most shops will use a standard Mazda OEM rebuild kit or one from a tuner and that can go from 750$USD -1700$USD depending if you want a full rebuild, or if an apex seal broke. It just depends, most shops will always recommend a full rebuild.

The last generation has a better engine, but the facelift front bumper is ugly as hell..
