so, a month ago i took a RDV with the office of passports. So they already had all my info in order (and i already declared that i've lost my old ID).

So i went there and at the window i say that i am here to make a new ID card, because i've lost mine.

Of course she proceeds asking me for a piece of ID. I smile and say, that's why i am here (bitch). Anyway, she lets me proceed and i sit down and have to take a new pic there (and while doing that, i see that they still have my 4 year old pic from my old ID there .. so it's not like they couldn't identify me lol).

Then i go back to the check out counter and say, that i've also have to fill out a "declaration of loss" for my old one. She checks and replies :

No, it's ok ..

YOUR CARD WAS FOUND AND DESTROYED.

A valid ID card, valid until 2020. Destroyed. And i had to make a new one and pay for it ...

Fucking capitalists lol.

troll government.

I made a new ID, and they said they'd texted me when it's done. Ofc that didn't happen, so after a month and a half I figured: ok, they should have made it by now, and ofc they did, but didn't notify me -.-"

Not to mention only 1 person is working at the police where they hand them out, and I waited for an hour to get that piece of plastic...

Is every citizens address etc registered somewhere Sin? In the UK I think it's not, that's why I'm asking. If you are registered with an address, why didn't they send you a mail with notification to come over and get your found ID?

yeah that's what i don't get. Every swiss citizen is registered here ... i mean they have my adress etc. at the office of population (mandatory). They have it at the passport office (mandatory). They have it at the tax office etc etc. It's really not tough for them to find me lol.

Can you live at different address ? Or you must inform authorities every time you relocate and stay there for some time ?

Interesting Smile Similar to the system we have here. We have permanent and temporary registrations.

If you are staying longer than 90 days in a region different from your permanent registration, you have get a temporary one. Hotels do that for you.

If you are changing permanent registration you have to register a new address within 7 days of arrival.

Here in Brazil you don't register anywhere, the only place you have to fill in your address is in the tax form/declaration (IRS), once a year. But lost (and found) IDs or whatever end up in the central postal office, so they try to contact you with what they have on their system (like match your name and address from your mail), otherwise it just sits there for a long time.

It's also really easy to get a new ID in certain places, if you go to a small rural village you don't even need any kind of proof that you are who you claim to be (and their systems are not connected), so you can change your name or whatever... and the IDs are valid forever.

My guess is that they don't do it because it would cost them "much" more to find the whereabouts of the owner, contact that person, store the ID etc. than making a new one.

yeah, they couldn't possibly send me a letter asking me to get my ID instead of destroying it right away lol.
