As a kid I was a fan of many of the shows/movies they're either planning to/or currently rebooting. That intro song, man, iconic, hehe.
I gotta admit, it sort of feels sad. Rebooting is essentially like erasing the past, meaning, instead of airing old shows again, they're re-writing and re-casting it for a new audience, as if the old version never happened.
A new dude is going to play MacGyver, like 'the actual MacGyver' and get recruited just like the 'original' guy. Its a total reboot.
What if they rebooted Star Wars ep 4-5-6 with new actors and tech. There'd be riots in the streets. Instead they're building on the old movies, new generations of actors with roots firmly in the old. I wish they'd take that approach more often, like in this instance. James Dean Anderson could be like a boss or mentor guy to a new dude or gal and sort of evolve the concept of being potent without much use of guns and still get the job done.
Its like they're just looking through their archives and pick something at random to resurrect.

They'll probably re-imagine it... now he's black, and his name is Macky G. The G stands for gangsta. He keeps it real.

There has been so many reboots that I could be mixing them up... but didn't we have a thread on this about a reboot where Mcguyver was going to be played by a woman?

Judging by all the PG-13 crap, I'd say McGuyver and the A-Team would do even better now.

I used to see Burn Notice as a MacGyver of sorts in the first seasons.

Place your bets, will the new MacGyver be a sassy black woman, tranny, or a 20 something with subpar acting skills we're supposed to find hot and has previously appeared in some CW show?
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

The rebootrain never stops. It feeds our good memories like a cookie monster, and turns them into..its biological equivalent
They're following the Ghostbusters route, with two separate reboos: one for the girls with the protagonist building smartphones from selfie sticks, and one for the boys, starring *looks at Leo's post* Kellan himself! (Billy Burke could be a serious candidate too xD)

And we all know, they have loads of that crap. Always wondered why it is not done/sparesly done. Enough great ideas that failed. Bet it would be cheaper to get those rights than the proven hits they want to butcher.

I believe it's all down to laziness (among the other things). They're using reboos of successful franchises because the name alone is enough for most of the people to book a ticket and munch some doritos in good company.
Doing a reboo of a franchise that already failed would mean putting actual efforts into it, with interesting ideas, a crazy thought for hollywood xD.
One recent attempt that didn't suck in my opinion was the Dredd one, though as far as I'm concerned the original movie was never a failure in the first place . But the sequel also flopped :3..no one wants to be the law now.

Quote: | CBS has handed out a formal pilot order for "MacGyver," its reimagining of the classic 1980s TV series of the same name which its own CBS Television Studios will produce.
In this take, MacGyver will be a twenty-something man recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent future disasters from happening.
Paul Downs Colaizzo penned the new take with "Furious 7" and "Saw" helmer James Wan attached to direct the pilot and executive produce. Henry Winkler, who also produced the original series, will also executive produce along with Michael Clear.
The project, along with the "Nancy Drew" reboot, are said to be a high priority for the network. The original series ran for 139 episodes from 1985 to 1992 and starred Richard Dean Anderson as MacGyver. The WB shot a pilot for a "Young MacGyver" back in 2003 with "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki in the role.
CBS has also handed out a pilot order for "Bull," a drama series based on the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw before he became a talk show host and served as the head of a prolific trial consulting services. McGraw and Paul Attanasio co-wrote the series. |

Quote: | "X-Men" actor Lucas Till will step into the shoes of Richard Dean Anderson, taking on the iconic character of MacGyver in CBS' upcoming reimagining of the early 1990s series.
The new take follows a twenty-something MacGyver (Till) as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
The casting caps a weeks-long search by CBS. The network originally had a script by R. Scott Gemmill ("NCIS: LA") but instead have picked up the pilot without a script after deciding to go with a new pitch from Paul Downs Colaizzo ("LFE") who was initially attached to the project when it was in development.
Joshua Boone has also joined the drama pilot as a series regular, playing MacGyver's best friend from high school named Gunner. George Eads ("CSI") is also onboard to co-star.
David Von Ancken will direct the pilot and executive produce alongside James Wan, Henry Winkler, Lee Zlotoff and Michael Clear. |

No
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
