So, any other owners here? I was skeptical about it at first, but now I just love my Shield. It was just gathering dust since I bought it and learned that my laptop had a GT650M and not a required GTX (couldn't stream using Nvidia's proprietary service)
But lately I decided to give it another shot and was pleasantly surprised. With the latest Kainy update and 5Ghz router the stream from PC is perfect, I'm playing Hawken on the couch while watching shows that don't require much attention (Arrow, Grimm & co). Gonna try Titanfall soon:
An Android port of Chocolate Doom allowed my dream to finally come true - Strife is available and fully playable
PSX emulation is finally what I always wanted it to be - with enough buttons, joysticks, save states and OpenGL. As well as Dreamcast, N64 and the rest. And also Doom3, Hexen 2, RTCW, Grim Fandango.
Of course most of this stuff is available for any Android device, but it plays so much better on Shield than on a Moga + DIY holder + phone. The weight balance, battery life, Tegra4, build quality, controller quality - it all outweighs the desire to have an all-in-one device. At least for me.
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube
Tested games on the dev kit. Apple fanbois in the office weren't impressed because, well, it doesn't have the apple logo on it but the other folks, such as myself, which like Android found it entertaining. If you can get it with a discount, 50 or 100 bucks off, go for it, it's a great mobile gaming device. You'll be bored with it in about a week, though.

That is if you expect it to be a hardcore PS Vita 2 or 4DS when you buy it. But if you see it as a companion device lying on a table near your big sofa then you will enjoy it regularly.
Actually the more I think about it the more it seems to me that Shield is for 30+ family guys. The older we get the less free time we have. Since a couple of years ago I find it difficult to waste an hour just on gaming (unless it's GTA V). Especially when those TV eps keep accumulating on the HDD. Playing Skyrim seemed impossible for example, considering how much time you need to invest. But finally I'm doing it thanks to Shield while watching some stuff or while the family watches some crap.

I'm really glad you're enjoying it. And I agree with your rationale regarding the uses for it. I however still have some time for shows or games but that'll probably go away once I have a kid or get married or have a more demanding job, in which case this, or something akin to it would serve me well.

So 4.4.2 is out along with remote streaming. Tested it with Moscow's LTE (4G) - can't own anyone in Titanfall or Hawken but otherwise it's totally playable. Everything other than MP shooters is playable.
