I'm playing the game as Trevor Belmont, replete with SNES-era visuals and the actual SNES soundtrack from Castlevania IV. You can switch between different versions and revisions of each character.. and each one has their own visuals, play style AND soundtrack, such as Simon Belmont and his OST from CV1 on the NES, or Christopher Belmont and his OST from CV Adventure on the Gameboy This is simply outstanding!! I want a downloadable version!
This forum disappoints me. Perhaps this would get more attention if it was running under CryEngine 2 and had more pew pew pew.
I feel the same way. But don't let that stop you from posting about anything interesting you find out there. I, few locals, and i'd like to imagine many lurkers appreciate it.
OT: This game is excellent. I love remakes and rehashes of old school games and this one is pure win.
LOL! I *knew* that would drag some of you out <3 Honestly, some of the chars are OP as hell but the game is hella tons of fun -- I'm surprised Nintendo has allowed it, to be honest.
@nerrd
Same here, I ADORE remakes (proper ones I mean, not shit like Syndicate) and I generally tend to amass huge collections of them, such as;
Hmm games get a free to use license after a certain amount of years or not?
Heh, we wish Tell that to the team who tried to make a 3D Chrono Trigger and were unceremoniously shut down by Squaresoft and their lawyers ... or another team that tried to remake a 2D CT with a whole new story and assets, who were also shut down. All these are non-profit projects but devs and publishers don't care
@Pumpy
Fair enough, boobies are better than games.... sometimes
SMC is being updated to 3.0, now includes the *original* sequel to Mario Bros, the one that was only released on Japanese PCs. Also includes more characters, dynamically altering levels based on difficulty and a bunch of new renderers; including an Atari 5200/7600 mode.. why? Because fuck highres pixels, that's why, heh.
Today is the three year anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Crossover, so we figured it was a good day to release the trailer for version 3.0. Finally, we’re going to have more levels. We decided to take the levels from an obscure Mario game called Super Mario Bros. Special. It is a pretty weird game that even has some new items and enemies. Playing the game is an absolute nightmare because it’s on an old Japanese computer and it has many technical limitations. Now that it’s playable in SMBC, it can finally be enjoyed like other Mario games. Also, I know that people want The Lost Levels in the game, but we decided to do “Special” first since it’s something different. We’ll be working on The Lost Levels for a future update.
The other big feature we’re adding is levels that change based on difficulty. This means if you play on easy mode, you’ll play an easier version of each level, and for hard mode, a harder version. I really enjoy the hard mode levels. Since I’ve played the game so many times, I’m used to playing through the levels pretty quickly, but on hard mode, I have to stop and think about what I’m doing. It’s really fun, and it plays with the player’s expectations. Easy mode is also fun. Instead of just making the levels easier, we added tons of coins. It makes you want to collect as many as you can so it changes the gameplay a bit.
And of course, there are new skins. Many of the skins in the trailer were released in version 2.1, but I included them since many people may not be aware of them. The new map skins are Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES and SNES), Super Mario Bros. Special, Atari, and Castlevania. There are also some new character skins that were not shown in the trailer only because there is so much stuff in the game it’s difficult to show it all. As mentioned in the trailer, the new version will be released in May or June.
Looks brilliant - can you do the map skin switch on the fly or was that just something they did for the trailer? Would be an interesting game mechanic.
Wow, that looks like tons and tons of fun. Really awesome idea to pour different characters, gameplay modes and dynamically altering environments into a single playthrough. The only downside is all these memories that suddenly start rushing in.
Back when 2.0 came out, I played through the first 3 worlds just using Simon Belmont with the SMB1 SNES tileset and the Castlevania IV music. I was heavenly.
The developers of SMBC put out a Kickstarter for their commercial project, Super Action Squad (originally called Super Retro Squad) and after taking nearly $60k has now, two years later, put the game on hold. The backers are not happy, not at all.
