The world of Judge Dredd is coming to TV screens thanks to a deal struck between leading independent entertainment studio IM Global and independent UK games developer and publisher Rebellion.
The deal will see development begin on Judge Dredd: Mega-City One, a high-end TV series based on the globally-famous character from the pages of legendary British comic book 2000 AD, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Set in a future where east coast America has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis, the show will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges – futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner – as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd Century throws at them.
Early development has begun on the show, and talent will be announced at a later date.
Attached to the production as Executive Producers are President of IM Global Television, Mark Stern, who developed critically-acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Helix, and Defiance at Syfy, IM Global Television CEO Stuart Ford, and the owners of Rebellion, Jason and Chris Kingsley, who along with Ford, were also executive producers on the 2012 DREDD feature film adaptation from DNA Films, Reliance Entertainment and IM Global.
I guess SyFy is the most probable network, then? Well, they do have some ok stuff currently, so at least it's a better sitution than a few years ago.
But it would be better if it landed on Netflix.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
"TV series *based on* the globally-famous character"
Jugde Dredd without Judge Dredd?
Sounds very likely if you read further; "the show will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges". You'd think they'd mention one particular judge. Also note the logo on their web page Judge Dredd in tiny letters "Mega-city One" in big letters.. Wouldn't be surprised if Karl Urban is Judge Dredd (like everyone wants) but he will not be in all episodes and not the main character.
I couldn't really care less, judge dredd is cool and all but he's about as deep as any arnold schwarzenegger character.. it's all about the world / setting.
The biggest problem is obviously how the world is going to look and be portrayed.. in shows like The Expanse they don't really have to budget to do scenes of huge sprawling cities, we get hints and little snippets sometimes. I wonder how they are going to solve that, i doubt the budget is even as high as The Expanse.
I hope the show can land on a proper channel, Dredd deserves genuine love
Having Karl Urban would be damn great, I remember him saying that after the Almost Human Fox fuckup he was done with TV, but if this project is solid enough (and supported by a talented/decent writing team), then I imagine his glorious return can indeed be a realistic possibility.

Hear hear
Please save us Karl Dredd. A yearly 10-13 episode series would be perfect.
