wait so the 64 bit version is broken but the 32 bit works fine
Quote: | VI. Potential fixes for stuttering
Using the 32bit version of Thief can help eliminate stuttering and other performance-related issues:
1. Go to: \SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Thief\Binaries
2. RENAME the "Win64" folder to whatever you want e.g. "Win64Backup"
3. COPY the "Win32" folder, so it should be "Win32 - Copy"
4. RENAME the "Win32 - Copy" folder to "Win64"
Source: http://steamcommunity.com/app/239160...9190724137672/. Thanks Meji & MyPerfection!
This other tweak requires starting a new game, as changing the level streaming value will result in a crash upon loading if the save game file features a different level streaming value (such as starting the game with it on TRUE and changing it to FALSE along the way - switching from FALSE to TRUE will also result in a crash, so it's best to change this value only when starting a new game)! However, this should help eliminate both in-game and benchmark stuttering, as it does for the other games based on the UE3 engine.
1. Navigate to your ...\ThiefGame\Config folder
2. Backup your ThiefEngine.ini file
3. Open the ThiefEngine.ini file with a text editor
4. Change
"bUseBackgroundLevelStreaming=XX"
"UsePriorityStreaming=XX"
"OnlyStreamInTextures=XX"
(XX being the default values)
to
"bUseBackgroundLevelStreaming=FALSE"
"UsePriorityStreaming=FALSE"
"OnlyStreamInTextures=TRUE"
5. Save the file and set it to "read-only".
VII. Black screen and/or crash on startup
Make sure Windows pagefile is enabled (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/w...#1TC=windows-7).
VIII. Improve texture streaming
1. Navigate to your ...\ThiefGame\Config folder
2. Backup your ThiefEngine.ini file
3. Open the ThiefEngine.ini file with a text editor
4. Change
"MipFadeInSpeed0=0.3"
"MipFadeOutSpeed0=0.1"
"MipFadeInSpeed1=2.0"
"MipFadeOutSpeed1=1.0"
to
"MipFadeInSpeed0=0.0"
"MipFadeOutSpeed0=0.0"
"MipFadeInSpeed1=0.0"
"MipFadeOutSpeed1=0.0"
5. Save the file and set it to "read-only".
If put on 0.0 textures load faster, for example when stealing something behind a texture such as a chest. Thanks CalinTM! |

oh and one more thing ... this game is another one of those BEYOND RETARDED GAMES that only work properly IF you install them on a INTERNAL DRIVE
reinstalled it on a internal drive thats 2x slower them my USB 3.0 3,5 TB and magically all voice acting is working perfectly heck even music is now working
so
on a external this game has no sound , well except background ambiance sounds
but on internal HDD ... sound came back in style
fuck ups like those , made remember why i even bothered with consoles...

For what it's worth, I've got my legit copy installed on an internal drive and the subtitles are quite often out of sync with the rest of the game - no the voices/lips, just the subtitles. Go figure >_>

i just found the cause of the stuttering, tested it on 4 PCs... one is a rendering station that is a beast of a thing that could play games in 8k and not even choke
and the solution is ... RAM DRM taaaadaaaaa or better put GPU RAM
1024x768 needs 512 ram
1280x720 needs 1 gig ram
1360x768 needs 1,2 gig ram
1980x1080 needs 3gig OF FUCKING RAM ON YOUR GPU
datttt texture porn
and those tweaks up there are RUBBISH .... they only force to stream the whole map to ram ... but yeah you still need that 32bit switch...
guess till Pcs will not develop a thing as a Unified Ram we are all screwed, when they will port games from NEXTGEN derp stations like this ...
if you want to play this on a normal PC , not a PC thats made as a rendering station
edit:
ok , here SOMETHING INSANE ,do you want to see how it looks on a new 2013 LAPTOP
game resolution 1440x810 on a 17inch
INSANE ISNT

My poor GTX570 has 'only' 1280 MB of ram, so the first thing I did was switch the textures to Normal (the difference is really minimal in terms of IQ since it only affects distant LOD) and that basically made my game run fairly smooth as long as I kept the SSAA disabled.
The 32bit trick helped also, same for disabling the framerate smooth/lag typical of these UE3 games. I'd say the performance is pretty good now, not 60fps good, but close enough. One thing is for sure, it runs much better than the PS4 version

the future is derp for PC ... i mean why unified ram was not a norm for PC is beyond me
Quote: | PlayStation 4 Lead Architect Mark Cerny is one of the men that took the decision to build the previously almost unbelievable eight gigabytes of GDRR5 RAM in a nice little circle around the console’s CPU, and to arrange them in an unified architecture that shuffles the memory dynamically between GPU and CPU. |

thats good for you , but that derp stations have 8 gigs of unified ram , what if they would need 4 gigs and then what , you will run to a store just to buy a new card , when your card could run it easily on ultra details, but it would not because you know GPU RAM DRM
i mean this game is not even optimized , where is streaming ? that got around the ram space problems , load those textures that are needed in this right moment not fucking all of it ...
and those people writing those tutorials how to tweak the ini ... don't want to call them idiots but i just did ,
and like it was said its BIOSHOCK INFINITE Ram problem ALL OVER AGAIN , when BIO stored the Map data in ram not removing it [flushing], making it lag on other maps when well your RAM WOULD BE FULL... this game just uploads all textures of the WHOLE level into GPU ram ...
PC master race CAN TAKE IT , they eat any shit , THEY ARE PC MASTER RACE , YUM... they are even more derpo then Console users ... go rush to your store to buy a new GFX to make it run , screw optimizations because the next GFX will make this game run like it was intended too ... yup finally my 2013 gfx card can run Crysis
and yes i know the joys of PC gaming is only thing that anything can be run even on weaker systems ... just lower those configurations , set lower resolutions etc... but why should I

you don't say but seeing how Nvidia and Ati ...ehm now Amd Ati treats the consumer ... well like idiots , re- releasing the same video card all over again but with 512 or 1 gig more ram and calling it a new graphics card GTXTXTS 820 .... and the PC user will go APE SHIT OMG ...

ok i understand that , so your on a card that has 3gigs, but the point on this was, that beyond 720p it goes loco and out of fucking nowhere adds 3 gigs of textures in your gpu when you go 1080p and beyond [oh and forgot to add all resolutions where tested on all things on high ... well expect on that one pc , gues witch one ]... then just streaming the needed textures on the fly , i would understand 1,5 gigs and the rest would be streamed in the background ... but turn on 1080p resolution and suddenly this game goes FUCK THIS , UPLOADING ALL SHIT INTO RAM
oh Unreal engine OH YOU

All fine and dandy lol, fair enough and all, etc....
But why whine like a baby because one game comes along that requires (or is not optimised correctly) your hardware to be up to spec?
Its YOUR job to make sure that, no matter what, you are able to run anything, with ease, and if not, pay the hard cash and make sure it does, without question, and right away.
Failing that, you cant be a part of the PC MASTER RACE, and should really stick to what you can run, Crysis, for example, although I made sure I could run that 2 cards ago

So if you use this tweak.
"bUseBackgroundLevelStreaming=FALSE"
"UsePriorityStreaming=FALSE"
"OnlyStreamInTextures=TRUE"
it always crash. when you load a save game?
i did new game. And then i died at some point. i did load last checkpoint. And the game is chrasing.

Yeah, this game should not have to be run on a 7xx card so it can run without issues. It should run just fine on 5xx series cards max detail at 1080p.
It doesn't, the game needs more cowbell.

But it ran so good. Is there no trick that it won't crash? | yes add more ram
just forget about this false fix ... its only for those that have slow HDD and loads of ram like 8 gigs or more
and it crashes because it wants to load a big chunk of map data in ram that is already taken by other map data [ those MASH BUTTON segments are not only for show ], just delete the edited engine ini and the game will create a fixed one ...
