Daylight is an upcoming survival horror video game. It is set to release for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in April 2014. It is being developed by Zombie Studios, and powered by Unreal Engine 4.

Daylight is a survival horror video game played from a first-person perspective. The player does not have access to weapons; their only tool is their camera recorder, which is also their sole light source. The game features procedurally generated levels so that no two environments are the same. The plot is centered around a woman who regains consciousness in an abandoned hospital with no memory of how she got there. With her cell phone, she must explore the haunted hospital and its criminal past in order to escape.

Looking forward to this! Is it a retail game or PSN, anyone know?

Edit: Judging by the $14.99 / £11.99 price, Id say its a PSN game.

The premise is IDENTICAL to outlast (same setting, same gameplay with no weapon and only a camera, same atmosphere).

Curious about the procedurally generated levels tho, an odd choice for this kind of game...

So this will obviously come to PS+ in April. I am a bit annoyed - would rather have something a little different for PS+

I dunno but the environment look very bland to me. I know it's supposed to be an abandonned hospital or asylum in ruins and that the levels are randomely generated but...

Also it was delayed a couple of days before it was supposed to be released to make the game scarier ? Really ? Laughing

I don't know but i have a bad feeling about that one. Hopefully i'm wrong because i love those types of games

I have watched some demos year ago and back then the game looked terrible. Things doesn't seems to be changed by now. :/

Quote:
First of all, there won't be any weapons or ways to really defend yourself against enemies in Daylight. You will find yourself waking up in an asylum/hospital where everything is a mystery, and you only have your cellphone to guide yourself through the darkness. The game randomly generates the environments and clues each time you play, so you will find new part of the storylines and places each time you play Daylight. There’s no way to predict anything. This cellphone plays an important role in your quest, as you will be able to use different apps on it, as well as watch and listen to content from the past explaining more about the storyline. The device can also become possessed, be used as a tool to avoid Phantoms or uncover your own tracks so that you don't get lost (although you certainly will!)

It's Daylight’s aspect of unpredictability that makes each game scary according to creative studio head Jared Gerritzen. He says that the feeling that you can't figure out the situation, the location of the scary elements, or what's exactly going on in each session is what makes a Daylight run a scary experience each time. Your typical run shouldn't last more than 30 minutes, but we are promised that the game will have a ton of replay value.

A pretty lengthy demo of Daylight was shown at E3 so that we could understand the concept better. The sequence mainly displayed a first-person view of someone exploring the asylum, and further confirmed the fact that this game won't be a bloody or action-filled one, but rather a very ghosty and mysterious experience. We saw different lights used by the character that allowed to see new types of ghosts or improve visibility in a major way like the emergency flare found in a kit on a wall. We could also hear scary and panicky voices coming from left to right, and it's now safe to say that surround sound will play a good part in properly feeling Daylight.

So as you can see, the developer is staying confident in the fact that players will indeed be curious, immersed and willing to discover everything within the game. If you don't like to go too deeply into things, like everything to come easy to you or expect a common horror game, let’s just say that Daylight probably isn't the best pick. Multiplayer doesn’t look to be at the core of this one either, so be ready to play the game alone in the dark and to get some true chills in this psychologically twisted solo game. In fact, Jared Gerritzen mentioned multiplayer as one factor that deteriorated the horror genre – “games are simply aren’t scary when you’re with a friend” – and he may be just right.

Each horror experience in Daylight is completely generated and new each time you start the game, all while owning a very full, deep story that comes together in different pieces and this last sentence alone could justify its price.

Release Date

Quote:
Daylight was originally going to be released on April 8th, 2014, but has since been delayed a few weeks to April 29th, 2014. It will be a digital download available via the PlayStation Store.

While the game will retail for $14.99, it will be on sale for two weeks after launch: $9.99 for PlayStation Plus members and $11.99 for everyone else.

So is he saying that the game can be completed in 30 minutes but you can replay it differently because the levels are random on each playthrough ?

Because i understand the concept but 30 mins seems very short....even with randomly generated levels.

Played this last night with headphones on and in the dark, and I have to say it shit me up more than Outlast did!

Unlike Outlast, the enemies in this randomly appear and you dont know where they are which seriously ramps up the fear factor. Plus you can only rid yourself of them temporarily by using flares. Run out of flares and its time to crap your pants! The good thing about the flares is it also drowns out the freaky sound effects. So when the flares run out the freaky sound effects kick back in and freaky sound effects plus no flares and no way to disperse the enemy is goddamn scary.

Its a simple game and is obviously quite repetitive but it run on UE4 and looks nice enough but not as good as Outlast.

I dont regret spending £8 on it at all Very Happy

the thing is both games are totally different

daylight is a collectors game based on the slender man mechanics of collecting 6 to 7 pages on each random generated level ... those pages generate a key that will open a door

outlast is a survival horror game !!!!!

i really wanted a survival horror game in FP but i got a crappy page collecting game and slender man was replaced by witches that can be chased away by flares Sad
