So I've been studying mechatronics at uni for the last 6 months but finally decided to drop out, couldnt stand the mechanics and electronics courses, I really really hate that shit with a passion.
So its back to my old job for now. But Im going to take the CCNP network certificates and then move onto a few microsoft and maybe a linux cert aswell. How much would you guys rate having CCNP certification, a few microsoft, linux etc? I bascially wanna know that its worth the time needed to study for the certs.
I also really like working with networking, troubleshooting, setting up servers, virtual machines etc

I rate it highly. Was studying for the CCNA and had a few MS certs going for MCSE when I had a job as Network Engineer. Never finished my high school, only did a one year course in college. So no diploma, just some certs in IT stuff and in some other stuff.
The certs showed I had experience backed up with knowledge. And that was enough to get various jobs. It was even enough for Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research in Beerse (Belgium) to hire me, after I did some work for them as an external (took another job tho).
Normally without a diploma you are kind of fucked in Belgium to get the higher tier jobs. But it helped me with getting any job really, impressed most employers and they forgot I never finished my education.
When you move to another country (Sweden in my case) it's also proof that your English is of a high standard and you know the 'technical' side of the language.
I bet it would be enough in Sweden when my Swedish is up to par. In school atm to do just that and figured I might as well finish my high school. I have plans to go to college but that has more to do with me finally wising up and to let everyone shut up about me not fulfilling my potential
To make it short: Yes it's worth it and you'll learn a lot, even when you have a great understanding in that field. It's pretty much a specialization.

Hated my microelectronics class with passion In the end (after the professor flunked me once) I aced it
It's good that you quit after realizing you won't be able to finish it. Better than staying on and on, wasting time and money. Smart move

Morphenius, thnx for the info. Im interested in applying for network positions in london seeing as how london is one of the financial capitals of the world with alot of banks etc in need of good network techs
Just need to get started which is the hardest part of studying for any cert
Dingo_d, yeah I figured it wasnt worth the time and money and its not something I really wanted to work with either so even though Im a bit scared now to have dropped off you guys calmed my nerves somewhat.

By the way download older exams. It helps to test your skills and you'll know where you need some more time on before doing the examination.
They aren't that cheap, could be changed, but mine were around 200€/300€ per cert at the time (the lower certs). So better be sure you handle the material before going in
