"Back to basics" - it sounds more like a new Gothic? After all, the rights to the series are back at Piranha Bytes after Arcania: Gothic 4 was known developed by Spellbound Entertainment for Jowood

Like i said very often i would take a gothic over risen any time, i miss the deep, dark and heavy atmosphere of the first 2 gothic games and im tired of exotic islands and pirates

gothic 5 pls Frap Frap Guy Frap Frap Guy

Oh if only they could finally put out a finished product. Gothic 3 and Risen 2 were both bugged beyond belief... and even Risen, while it was incredibly good, had an ending that seemed very short and rushed.

Learn some proper scheduling Piranha Bytes!

I don't think Gothic 3's release schedule was their fault, more like JoWood's fault.

They're probably never gonna do sailing, because they're not interested. They've expressed they're stance on it before Risen 2 was out and they feel that it doesn't have a place in their kind of game. That's why they didn't even take a shot at it with Risen 2. I can definitely understand where they're coming from. It might be that the success of the sailing in AC games changed how they feel about all this, but most probably not.

Would be nice if we had an action RPG again that has more then LIGHT ATTACK and HEAVY ATTACK stormwolf. But I highly doubt they will incorporate combat from G1 and G2

PC Specs: A Maganavox' Odyssey
Tweaked to play Frogger, Lemmings & GTA4

Knowing the actual Piranha you'd end up having a game with the combat system from ACIV and graphics from Gothic 2 Laughing

In all seriousness, I really hope these guys manage to get their shit together, because the potential to make something epic (again) is definitely there, it only needs to be unleashed.

I liked Risen 2 too in the end, but I can't deny that it was a big disappointment in pretty much every department. Same for Gothic 3, although to a lesser extent. Risen 1 was the game that made me go in awe, reminding me of the good times..until it started becoming a generic hack 'n slash with ugly environments in the second part like Xenthalon mentioned Sad

As for Arcania, well that one doesn't exist in my book so there's nothing to talk about Cool Face

Oh, also: I could do without the pirate crap.

Give us just that Gothic 1 and 2 "classic" setting, and add that all pirates were hanged. kthxbye

I do wonder though if most fans would be for or against G1 and G2 combat. I can't remember any game with as fun combat as those 2.

Until i played Dark Souls i thought Gothic 1-2 had the best combat of any RPG.

I'm all for a new PB Game.

But I will keep my expectations low. I had lots of fun with Risen and Risen 2, but they just seem to not really get it right everytime they start a new project since Gothic 2.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Gothic 2 had a lot of problems at vanilla state too, but I was much more forgiving back then. Night of the Raven made it the classic it is today imo. I think the guys at the head just don't know what they're doing. Their games are a simple example of "trying too much, doing too little" imo. Risen's second half was the perfect example. Developing a game is a business too, it needs strict management I imagine.

I will buy this game from them, if they incorporate solid combat. I never doubted their world building ability.

I think the best ARPG combat is the one found in Mars: War Logs. Many attack types, enemies have somewhat good AI, you can't just wail on them until death, you have to vary it up, and dodging mechanics as well. It's Witcher's combat done right.

Second comes, imho, Risen's combat.Risen 2 was balls though.

Gothic 3 was really good too. I can even place it on 2nd place after 2 and before 1. It had really good combat and big world to explore. The story was kinda dumb but gameplay was really cool. Just all that idiotic bugs ruined the whole experience and people remember the game as bad Sad All those crashes, low performance, graphic bugs and immortal boars were really pissing on every other thing in this game. I played only with cheats because there was almost no ther way to finish it Crying or Very sad

Gothic 3 combat... wasn't that the one where all you did was click the left mouse button over and over until either you or the enemy fell over? Oh god it was so bad, most basic and boring combat system ever. It was even worse than Oblivion....much worse actually.

At least that's how I remember it. Fighting boars and shit, constantly stun-locking them in my attack spam until they'd die.

... Neutral

Any mod out there that changes it to the classic Gothic style?

Hmmm. Maybe I forgot how the combat worked in Gothic 3. Just saw some videos about it and I remember it was more clickfest and no timing like in G 2 or 1. My mistake, sorry about that Embarassed
But the exploration stuff was cool and gameplay was still good. I played it so long ago but I know it was good game. Although I finished it only once because those bugs were driving me nuts.
