Been spending all week looking for a bad ass DAP since I'm not fond of using phones for them since their audio chips aren't the best sounding and are average at best.
Incoming:
iBasso DX50
They took the battery from the Samsung Galaxy S3 to use for it so if battery issues ever arise, they're easy to replace and not too costly. They also wanted to make something that was more future proof so they added in support for up to 2 TB SDHC cards ^__^
This thing is also rocking the same audio chip that FiiO X3 and is almost out doing the Astell & Kern 100 that costs 700+
Also got some Thinksound TS02 IMEs coming next week as well.

Well I got it a few days ago. I took a screen cap of what their shipping looks like. DHL is pretty boss. I ended up leaving my signature on a piece of paper for them since I wasn't going to be home to sign for the package.
From Singapore to my doorstep in almost...no...time.
Before I get way into it, I love audiophile equipment, I know how it sounds to me but I'm not nearly good enough to get into the minor details of everything, I'm not that good lol.
Packaging:
I didn't take a picture of it because it's pretty basic.. It comes in a snug cardboard insert. The box itself is kind of nice for being cardboard. I don't like flashy packaging, I'm just going to throw it away so the more cardboard they use the better. No plastic is used on the packaging.
Mine came with 2 screen protectors, line out cable with an RCA connection on one end, a usb cable and a fancy as hell warranty card. The card must be a new thing because I read various posts, reviews etc that all stated they didn't get anything.
The device itself:
Holy crap it's nice. Brushed aluminum, nice curves except the top where the edges are a little..sharp...not enough to cut, just not as rounded off as the rest of the device. Button placement and size are all great. Easy to distinguish when fondling around in your pocket. I especially like the line out being on the bottom so when I stick my hand in my pocket and grab it, it'll be facing the right direction when I look at it. The rest you can really just read anywhere else.
The UI is where I can talk more about. What I was only slightly irritated about was the fact there was no quick guide or anything on how to use it. If you come from Android (it's more like it than iOS) you'll figure it out pretty quick. I was slightly scared to be introduced with a laggy touch screen that was slow, and to my surprise it WASNT and on top of that, it's an IPS screen so it's nice and vibrant. Even with such a small screen and the size of the buttons, the touch accuracy is amazing. I thought I was going to get pissed with it and even when I thought I wasn't hitting the button, it registered perfectly every time. The only time it's hesitated is if I click "all songs" which I have over over 100 and the hesitation is only maybe 1 second at most. Nothing to even complain about. Switching to another song however is where it seems to lag if you do it manually. Why this is I don't know. I'm also on a version or two older firmware so I'll update it and see if that fixes anything. Mess around with it for about 5 minutes and you get the gyst of how it works. It also has an 8 band EQ which was a huge bonus.
I feel as though they could have opted for a slightly bigger screen to utilize the space below the buttons more but, that would put the buttons lower which wouldn't feel as natural for thumb navigation. Using a bigger screen would also up the price, which in it's current form, 260 shipped is a hell of a damn deal.
Also they futureproofed this to be good to use 2TB microSD cards when.....WHEN they come out lol.
Sound:
I use it with Thinksound TS02 IEMs.
Just to take a side note, the guys at Thinksound are some of the coolest damn people I've ever had the pleasure to interact with, when it comes to support. I bought the TS01s and while they sounded good for 50 bucks, I wasn't terribly happy with them, the lows were a little forced and not clear, the highs broke up and got a little screechy and the mids just didn't have an entire lot of personality. I saw on Amazon, where I ordered them, that the owner was posting on every negative review asking the customers to deal directly with them and not Amazon so they can correct the problem and get feedback on what customers thought. I did just that, got ahold of TS and let them know I was more interested in the TS02 since they had the dummer from Lamb of God test them out. These cost close to 100 bucks. They asked me for my address and sent them to me with a return shipping label to send the other ones back. They didn't even charge me the difference! On top of that, they did 2 day shipping and sent them to me on faith I'd send the other ones back! I'll obviously send the other ones back to them but I thought that was super cool of them.
The Thinksound TS02 mixed with this DX50 is just mind boggling droolllllll. I come from using Android phones with poweramp to play my music and going from my phone with the TS02s to the DX50 was a massive difference in sound. The sound stage is incredible. I tested a lot of Pink Floyd because...well....it's Pink Floyd. The vocals sounded like they were in front of the rest of the band (which I like, some don't). You feel as though the instruments are separated from each other rather than just mushed all together. The highs are clear and crisp, the mids are nice and pronounced and the bass is present but not over powering (unless you dial it in to be.) Even playing MP3s sounded great, if you have lossless, that REAALLLY shines.
There's also a switch on the bottom with 3 different stages of gain. Low, medium and high. Sounds amazing for what I listen to on medium.
Battery life is phenomenal as well. I plugged it in around 10am, it's now 4:52 at the time of typing this and the battery is roughtly 3/4 full still. If your battery goes to crap or you want another one, they use the same battery that the Samsung Galaxy S3 uses, so that's convenient as hell and not having to worry about proprietary crap makes me happy.
In the...5? hours I've gotten to play with it, my only complaints:
1) Switching between songs has a slight delay, which is fine for now, it'll get fixed. (I just found out I'm on the latest firmware...darn)
2) I kind of wish they came with rubber plugs to plug the unused holes. I work in a wood/metal fabrication shop where I'll be using it so..it gets dust there. Whatever though, I'll just throw it in a ziplock or something.
