|
 |
Obviously the new CPUs are pretty underwhelming, I don't overclock and I don't run into temperature problems.
At the moment I have a i7 2600K, GTX580, 16GB RAM, 2 SSDs and a decent PSU.
I don't need to upgrade, but at this time each year I'm given a chance to upgrade everything. On the other hand, why not do it anyway? It's money that will otherwise go towards something boring.
I want to upgrade to a GTX780 at the very least. I'm guessing the CPU/RAM are still fine, but I'd also like a new case + PSU as I might get 2 780's.
Any suggestions on a case + PSU that would accommodate 2 of those? Or a whole setup?
Thanks

i had to get a cm storm trooper for my new system (eatx). its big enough it could probably fit my old case in it. definitely room for a pair of big gpus. theres a pic of it in the 'post the inside of your pc' thread that should give you an idea of what a 680 top edition looks like in there. i dont know if 780s are much bigger/longer or whatever, but theres easily room for 3 of my gpus in here.
for a psu i got this one, thinking that later i wouldnt have to upgrade it when i put in more gpus and stuff. its a great unit to work with (modular) and its been quiet and absolutely without fault for the last year. im sure people will say its too much, but the price difference between this and a smaller one was negligible, compared to buying a smaller one at first, then having to buy this on top once i have spent all the extra money on that second gpu or whatever requires more power.

Your CPU is more than enough, there is nothing that will make it sweat. By the time its shit, then Haswell etc.. will be slow aswell. Also what goes for the GTX 780, if you are gaming on 1080p i dont see any reason to go for SLI, hell it runs everything with good fps @ 1440p.

If you are getting 30" monitor, i really cannot recommend 1080p screen, also i dont think there is even monitors of that size with less than 1440p resolution.

to prevent a topic creation i'll ask here..
I've got the Antec 900 CASE from my sig,but lately the front USB 2.0 ports starts to get defective in a sense that whenever i plug a controller to one of those ports, depending of how the cable moves, the USB cable gets in the port still like nothing, sure, but i can hear the "Dis/connected" sound from Windows 7..ofcourse,i notice that my controller stops responding
I was wondering if a new Case would be better for this, besides of better cooling and stuff,ALSO USB 3.0
Something to note is...i love "Blue" and i don't mean the case itself but the FANS..that's why i got the antec 900 because of it's looks and stuff..
Would a Thermaltake case or an Antec 1200 be helpful?..i know size might be a tiny problem with the top venting systems thou..
EDIT: Also, the more fans the more cables i'd need to power them..are these cables sold separatedly to power multiple fans in one set of cables or something?..kinda worries me

That's higher than 4K resolution isn't it? So yeah games wouldn't run very well.
@DV2 I would look at something other than an Antec 1200. You can buy all sorts of cables separately.
