Okay, so I've bought the following in the past 3 weeks:

Now I'm looking to get a pair of monitors and a small mixer board for my home studio.

Funds are (understandably) drained so I can't afford a $500 set of monitors (speakers for audio production) or $500 for a mixer that will just go from guitar->hd300->mixer->sound card.

I got a pair of Presonus Eris (http://www.presonus.com/products/Eris) for $300 for the pair, they are only 5 1/4 drivers not the 8" ones. But they sound DAMN nice. And was one of the few with a high/mid gain knob on them to tweak it for your room setting. Also has unbalanced 1/8 input as well as RCA.
I went to music depot and previewed all the ones they had. These was the best sounding ones for under $200 for each. IT even rivaled the Rokit 8's other than the low low end of bass but unless your going sub 40hz they put out a lot of clean flat sound.

If your looking for a cheap ASIO sound card input/output. The m-audio I had forever was really nice.
I got a Stienburg CI2 now. And couldn't be happier for the price. It has all I need. 2 mic inputs that are instrument and low/high mic option, headphone out and line out with volume for each and a input/daw mixer. It works amazing with Guitar Rig (what I use myself) and as my main soundcard.

I have an aversion towards USB-cards. Maximum latency I can accept is 10ms, preferably 5-7ms and I have this idea that the USB interface simply can't avoid higher latencies, ASIO or not. One good thing with the Steinberg mixers is that you get Cubase 6 AI free (currently running 5.1.1 Air-cracked).

Could be I've never noticed any.
Either it can handle it OK, or I just dont notice it.
Playing with my guitar hooked through the CI2 or directly in an amp I cant notice any delay in 'pluck-to-sound output' vs the amp.
Even tried it with my sons acoustic that has a amp output so I can hear the guitar itself and output together, as far as I can tell the notes played dead on top of each other. Same with my midi keyboard, it seems pretty dead on with key press to output.

I mean its running through my PC to output so there has to be SOME delay, but damned if I can tell.

Crap if I still had my cubase disk Id let you have it. I never used it. But that was 2 house moves ago I got this..I have no idea where it is. Ill look for it.

I kind of sorted out how to use the USB soundcard in the HD300. The secret is to ONLY use either the HD300 USB or an internal card like an M-Audio 2496/192, never combine them, that is what introduces the lag since the signal will go through several D/A <-> A/D converters while having effects/EQ etc. applied which obviously add a lot of latency to the return signal.

After setting it up properly and ONLY using the HD300 USB ASIO as In/Out with headphones (haven't bought the Behringer monitors yet) I got 5ms latency (ie. completely unnoticeable). And since I'm not monitoring the recorded audio I get basically zero latency since I hear the straight signal (it splits off both to Cubase and to my headphones/monitors).

Btw, if you ever find that Cubase CD/DVD I'd be very grateful. Smile

OH the HD300 is USB for sound input/output? sorry didn't know that. Yea it alone on ASIO should rock for latency.

And I tore my closet apart looking for it, I cant find that CD Sad I swear I had it somewhere, now its a mission to find it out of principle of it..lol I never even opened the plastic tab seal on the sleeve.

I didn't know that either (that the POD HD300 is a full fledged USB ASIO Audio interface as well as all the other things it is). I learn new stuff every day about it.
