Quote:
Wings of Saint Nazaire is an action-orientated space simulation game reminiscent of titles such as Wing Commander™ and the X-Wing™ series. Wings is designed to be an easy-to-play but hard-to-master game - that means you can jump in, fly around, kick ass and have a ton of fun as a newbie but the game also offers core players enough gameplay depth to keep even the veterans of the genre interested.

Release : Free Alpha

The alpha is obviously very limited but the game is pretty cool, fast and arcadey. The sprites are actually surprisingly sexy Razz

Hopefully the awkward scaling will be a bit better in the final game, it's eerily like Wing Commander... but even those sprites scaled better than this.

What's the link for the demo, please? I only see the 2013 alpha on the site.

~edit~

Oh wait, never mind, same archive has the July 2014 files as well. Thanks! I was looking forward to checking this out Smile

Really nice time waster! I really dig the old retro wing commander art style with the more modern lightning and laser and all that!

It's not bad, the UI needs cleaning up though .. the "retro" pixel hud makes it slightly uncomfortable to play. Other than that, it could be a really fun arcade-y shooter with some more meat on it Very Happy

What you on about? WC ships consisted of like 16 pixels so they became HUEG when up close. this looks much better.

Not sure how I feel about those sprites. They look good at first glance, but it is 2014. Will be checking this game out for sure though.

They're going for the retro aesthetic. Good choice, there are infinite space shooters coming out and the old ones hold up well, too. There are many fanmade based on good opensource engines, too, the market hardly needs another run-of-the-mill space shooter.

You've outed yourself as a millennial by posting screenshots of WC/TF, which they say their briefing screen will be based on - once it's done.

Ah, I thought they emulated the retro look, I mean they are using sprites FFS instead of 3D objects.

I have played WC recently but couldn't get into it. Laughing

EDIT: replaced it with an actual game gif

I blame Scam Citizen, the game that has siphoned a lot of money, hype and hope away from other legit attempts. And it will never really deliver what it promised IMO. Where is that SP campaign, retards?

The WOSN team should just start a crowdfunding effort with a newer alpha and hire some more people, it's going so sloooowwwww.
