Like the subject says, I can't get the frontpanel esata port to work with my external hdd.

I have a Asus P7P55D LE mobo, Intel P55 chipset obviously, and a Coolermaster HAF 922 case. Oh yeah, and Windows 7 64bit. Now the motherboard has its own esata port on the back and that one is working just fine, but that one is wired to the secondary jmicron controller on the motherboard, not the main intel chipset, and I think therein lies the problem. The frontpanel esata port is hooked up to the motherboard like any normal internal sata drive, and somehow the intel sata controller refuses to hotplug my external hdd.

What i've tried so far:
Checked that AHCI is enabled,
checked the sata cable that connects the frontpanel port to the motherboard,
checked the esata cable that connects the external drive to the computer,
checked the frontpanel connectors (ordered a new one, didn't work either),
tried searching for new hardware in device manager and Intel Matrix Storage console,
installed most recent drivers for Intel chipset and jmicron controller

I also noticed that when I switch on the external drive without it being connected to the pc, the hdd in there won't spin up, but as soon as I plug the esata cable into the pc, it does, so _something_ is happening there. Still not being detected, though.

Guys I've reached the limit of my knowledge here and my google fu is failing me. Any ideas beyond what i've tried?
