a lot of topics are created without using the template .. or even any attempt of a proper format, period. Mostly it's a link and nothing else. Would be nice, if we could enforce this a bit more, so topics about a game are a bit more informative. Just saying. This also means, don't create a thread for a game, if you can't/won't update the info as it moves along.
just an idea.

It happens all over the place, not only here. You'd think copy-pasting a template wouldn't be too hard. Mods don't seem to care though, so nothing will happen probably.

@saner, believe me, we mean the same, when we're talking about "special" ("" says it all).
@consolitis : you don't have to use ALL the points of the template. But at least the basics. Like screenshots/trailers/genre/description/urls etc.

Isn't that already the minimum, the first block anyway? I used that last year for this, and dare I say it looks pretty good (yes, "lol ff sucks", "waste of time", "better do it for game XY"...maybe I would, if I had the chance). It would be really nice to have at least some info for all games.
But there's a problem when someone wants to be first to break the news but may not want to maintain the first post which is understandable. I guess mods could add a few lines if all else fails, but again there might be someone else who would have liked to keep the post alive in better condition unless you can actually rearange posts and give the power to some other user to become the almighty OP AKA The Faggot.

from my part i always laught when click on a torrent, and the first comment is "YOU DINT POST A LINK ABOUT THE GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!"
i mean, how lazy you can be ?
anyway, this is in case of a torrent.
for a forum, i would expect some basic infos. not necesarly a template, but a title, genre, features, youtube/devs link, and some personal impresions. at least the minimun for starting a discution.

Well, 50/50. Threads these days grow so fast, and information is available so easily on the internet, I really think it is more bother than better. I used to do the templates, but I find them less useful. What happens often is someone makes a template but never updates it and information there is often incorrect.

I'm actually with you both... I think that templates are both incredibly useful and, at times, just needless hassle - especially for popular/well-known games where the thread rockets and fills with information fast enough anyhow, I reckon templates are best used for describing lesser-known titles upcoming or previous. I'm guilty of both sides of the argument to be honest, I've made threads without templates (or poor excuses for one) and I've also made threads where I really put the effort in.

I mostly use simple template , but i do it mostly for some small games i found on web/greenlight and impress me. So i am on sabi'ns side - for not so known games templates are great , but for popular one spretty much usefull: If you make a thread for example for CoD 18 , everyone pretty much knows what that is and the fans of that series will fill the thread themselfs

Well with the new forum we should make it so a few lines from the template ain't optional and have to be filled out when creating a new topic in the correct sections, problem solved.
