1. get the max amount of ram for your old MB (8gb in my case)
2. get Ramdisk Plus to allocate the unusable by the OS ram (~5gb)
3. make a partition disk on that said ram
4. move your temporary folders and page file on the ram partition
5. profit for your 6yo PC

Or just install 64bit Windows to your 6 year old PC, and everything runs better.

pretty much this. Windows 7 x64 ran like a breeze on my mom's socket 754 computer I built almost 10 years ago.

And override all the quirks on my 6yo 32bit Vista !? NEVER! Laughing cba to reinstall windows again, and install all the programs and games again..
