With Pacific Rim 2 being dead del Toro is close to signing on directing a remake/reboot of 1966's "Fantastic Voyage".
James Cameron was once to direct it and wrote a draft but he has since given up due to his involvement with Avatar. Now Cameron will produce a new treatment by David S. Goyer which is being developed to script by the latter and one Justin Rhodes.
Notably, Cameron was to be the producer of the cancelled "At the Mountains of Madness" adaptation by del Toro and Goyer has previously written the del Toro directed "Blade II" picture.
Finally there is a note that the studio is looking to make a big blockbuster of it ("an event-sized tentpole" as the article says.)
| Quote: | | Voyage revolves around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a scientist in an attempt to save his life. The original movie was set during the Cold War, and the scientist was a defector who was in a coma after an assassination attempt. |
