Day 14 in Serbia:

Stumbling home drunk at 2 am. All of a sudden a pack of wild dogs appear from nowhere. Some of them are barking, while others are baring their teeth. One of them rushes out and attacks me, but just nips my shoe. The next time he comes around, I try to kick him, but fall down on a rock and break my phone screen and bruise my thigh. My cousin then comes at it with a piece of wood cracks the dog across the rib section. I get up and we run away.

Just another day in Serbia.

Just earlier today I watched a motorcyclist run into a bus, and then pull the door open, drag the bus driver out, and start punching him in the street. Last night I saw someone showing off his guns in a crowded club on one of the "splavovi" (river rafts).

What a fucking jungle. I leave on Sunday, just have to survive til then. I'm drunk now. 'night.

What the hell o.O

At least you're not injured (apart for the bruise), it could have gone worse.. once again cousin Roman saved the day xD. In all seriousness though, that's really discomforting. Get your shit together Serbia Sad

As someone who lives in Serbia, the country is not nearly as bad as he made it seem. When you get so drunk you can barely walk and stumble through some unknown area you are bound to potentially find trouble in any country. If you be just like any other normal tourist you won't have issues. Also, stay clear of Belgrade after 10 PM, it's a shithole. During the day it's fantastic to visit and enjoy the sights. And no, people don't beat each other up on the street daily here, I've personally never seen it. As for a person showing off guns in a club, I'm fairly sure you can see that in any club across the whole EU. There is assholes everywhere.

There are several "specific" clubs at the river in Belgrade which are known to have shady guests (petty criminals, rich politicians' kids), but nevertheless strangers seem not to miss those places, I don't know, maybe they are attracted by all the lights and tits (because there's huge amount of expensive sluts there).
But to me, the atmosphere there is total trash, not to mention the orangutan security which just looks for an excuse to beat you up.

There are like hundred normal places here when you can go and safely have great time.

How does Croatia compare to Serbia btw? (thought Id ask because there seem to be quite a few from both countries on this forum Very Happy )
Iv always had this picture of Croatia being somewhat safer and better. But when it comes to corruption it seems to be about the same level from what iv heard from people :/

Iv got lots of friends that visit Croatia in the summer and love the beaches. But don't know if coastal line the the only reason why they prefer Croatia. Only got one friend that visited Serbia, and that was because of eurovision Laughing

Croatia is beautiful, they really cleaned up their act compared to Serbia. Corruption is not something you need to worry about when you visit the countries; there is next to no street-level corruptions, it only goes on at the highest levels of the country. But it doesn't affect you as a foreigner.

Also both countries are very safe, much safer than America (where I live). It's just that me and my entire family are retards when we are drunk, and go out of our way to get into trouble. For example my relative whipped out his dick in the street last year, and ran around trying to piss on cops with it But that's another story...

I hear some weird stores from Serbia from time to time and I would say Croatia is safer. Like a friends friend was in Serbia and he saw a car stop a tram in it's tracks because the driver wanted to talk to his friend who was on the street Confused the tram driver is like 'move biatch' and the driver is like 'stfu I'm talking to someone, don't make me get out and kick your ass'.

Serbia is just as safe. As long as you use common sense you will not have problems. Street crime is low, but pickpocketing may occur in crowded area. Beside that, not much happens in the streets when it comes to criminal activity. Corruption is present in both Croatia and Serbia, but it's mostly present in highest levels like Tainted said, among the politicians and the rest. Emergency medical services are really fast and work really professionally. Police will not cause you any trouble either in most cases as long as you behave, most police vehicles have cameras now and wireless microphones so it's highly unlikely now that you'll run into some douche cop who just wants to screw you around.

I've seen that in Croatia as well. And many other European countries. There are douche bags everywhere, it doesn't mean Croatia or Serbia are bad countries cause of it. There have been cases of vehicles with Serbian car plates being demolished in Croatia just cause they are from Serbia, but that doesn't make whole Croatia bad. It's just a few mindless idiots who cause nothing but trouble.

Nope. There is some "intolerance" towards the gay population, so if a person is gay they should probably avoid showing it publicly. Again, you may walk around dressed in pink with LGBT colors and you will most likely not have big issues, but it should be avoided due to a part of people that are fucking idiots. So better to be safe with that. Serbia is not a perfect country, I don't think there is a perfect country, but I think that 95% of the tourist visits here go trouble free and I know that a lot of tourists I talked to they said they really enjoy it here and that people are generally very friendly and show great hospitality to foreigners. Also, what Guy_Incognito said Very Happy

Srbija! V_

grinhurt

Well, I would be surprised, but I'm not. Few years ago, I heard from my relatives in Novi Sad, that it's a popular thing for kids to drive through tunnels in the opposite direction, car roulette or sth like that Laughing

Compared to Serbia, I'd say we're mildly calmer, but as ppl said, there are idiots everywhere. And on the coast it's often tourists who are behaving like drunken idiots, so...

Don't know if there are a lot of them in Croatia, but they are generally found at any country with sun, nice beaches and cheap alcohol -.-
Thats why I don't want to go to party places like sunny beach or ayia napa

Very Happy I still remember the friendly match against Italy from some years ago, the one in Genova that got suspended. Some crazy people in there, many of them got arrested. Laughing

(But to be honest, we have our fair share of creepy hooligans and the likes here as well, it's a more general problem Razz)

The best time to visit Serbia is spring and autumn (regarding sightseeing and nightlife).
It's just too damn hot now, and winters are ugly, either no snow at all and very cold wind, or too much snow followed with a complete traffic collapse :c

Countryside is marvelous tho anytime of year, but I would recommend organized traveling because you can miss many nice places on your own.
