Seems there is some major problem with the latest version of CCleaner (4.04).
I just downloaded and used it and well, it nuked all my bookmarks in FF (i.e. it removed the links and replaced them with links from my current history, basically it replaced everything with nfohump links lol).
Thanks for the warning and I'll add one of my own too, though it's more anecdotal than an outright warning; CCleaner has a habit of nuking FAR too much despite selected options. I *never ever EVER* have the options for "Cookies" or "Windows jumplists" or "Cache" enabled, not EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER, yet CCleaner will wipe them every time nonetheless. It will wipe them and all my jumplists will be empty, my Start menu "recent apps" will be empty, my Winamp playlist will be empty (since Winamp uses the Appdata\Local\Roaming\winamp.m3u for playlist modifications until you save to a permanent M3U) and my browser will loser all its saved cookies for sites - meaning I'll be logged out on every webpage.
It's incredibly vexing, so much so that I rarely use CCleaner any more
Never had that happen but of course a program like this is bound to have bugs and issues, it took a couple of versions before Windows 8 was properly supported to name one thing though with actual software they are usually much faster but it's probably simpler too.
The in-built Windows disk cleanup utility has improved as of W7 and W8 though and does work to remove the majority of crap files or logs and such but of course it doesn't cover third party programs or other advanced functionality.
Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. I have been using the latest version of CC cleaner on my home and also work PC's and have not had this issue happen. Although I do have a few items un-checked off of my list of things to scan/clean...
