So I can't for the life of me figure out why at times I get huge drops in FPS.
I literally go from 120 (capped it at 120 even tho my monitor can do 144) down to like 60 and then I check both CPU and GPU usage and they're hovering around 65-80% use yet my fps stays around 67-70.
It's driving me mad, I've tried everything.
OC'ing both CPU and GPU, reset both to stock, changing drivers, changing resolution and changing in-game settings (even going so far as using those tweak commands for shadows etc.).

Nothing seems to help, I just can't figure it out and it's driving me batshit crazy.

CPU: FX-8350 @ 4Ghz (4.2Ghz OC'd 100% stable)
GPU: GTX 670 @ stock (OC'd voltage as well just in-case)
MB: Crosshair V Formula (both untouched and tweaked)
Resolution: 1920x1080 (doesn't matter much even if I scale it down to 720p)
RAM: 8GB corsair XMS3 (if I'm not mistaken)
PSU: 750W NZXT gold
In-game settings: doesn't matter

So is it just me or does BF3 just randomly drop FPS in some areas for no apparent reason? Crying or Very sad

OK surprised to see no answer by werelds here:

Fix your max fps at 80. He talked about this being the answer to his mysterious frame drops Smile

Well, I'd love to push it to 100+ since my monitor is a 144Hz (and I've capped it in-game at 120). Surprised

I'll try it out just to see if that might fix it.

Just out of curiosity are you the the latest nvidia driver, 320.18?

There are said to be some major issues with them.... you can check guru3d forums for that in the nvidia drivers section.

Yes, but same thing with older drivers (back to 306). Going to try out even older drivers because this fucking game is doing my head in...

Just tried the first Win8 drivers (302.82) and I am seeing a difference in performance.
I might try out even some older win7 drivers, like the 296.10.

Edit2:
Nope, not even able to install the win7 drivers due to Nvidia crying that the hardware isn't found. Sad
