Quote:
"The last thing that you remember is standing before the wizard Lakmir as he gestured wildly and chanted in an archaic tongue. Now you find yourself staring at an entryway which lies at the edge of a forest."

So begins the legend of Shadowgate - the granddaddy of all 'point and click' fantasy adventure games! This unique adventure paved the way for a host of adventure games to follow, sold millions of copies and has been ported to nearly 10 different platforms!

Zojoi, and the creators of Shadowgate, are proud to announce the pre-production of Shadowgate! While we love all of the versions of the game (especially the NES version!), this new game is not simply a port. We are updating Shadowgate with lots of new puzzles! New rooms have also been added - as well as familiar locations, many that we are redesigning to provide a new play experience while retaining the essence and fun of the original. We plan to develop the game for PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, hoping to bring back the first-person adventure game genre!

Shadowgate will feature:

Over 60 rooms of first-person, fantasy adventuring
Many new puzzles from the original creators
Intuitive command-based UI
Beautifully painted, hi-resolution artwork
Compelling game play and storytelling
Windows, Mac, iOS and Android device support
Two soundtrack modes (Cinematic and original NES) and environmental soundscapes
Atmospheric and object-specific animations
In-game hint system

Re-played the NES version some years ago, watched a playthrough of it just around a week back, one of the first adventure games I ever played, also pretty good for it's time. Smile
( )

Will be interesting to see how this goes, sounds promising.

It's an adventure game so it's not my thing I guess, but it looks really nice. Love the art style of the game and that concept art with the logo is really awesome!

Nice to see that they do not plan to derp it down.More to do and better GFX is all a new Shadowgate needs.

Took me a lot of time finishing the NES version when i was 10 or so,seeing someone running trough it in an hour makes me sad

It really seems very promising. Smile
A must have.
I only hope that their goal isn't to high to be met.

It took me a lot of time too, technically the game isn't that long (NES cartridge space limitations I guess.) but the many ways to fail the game means there's a lot of trial and error thus greatly expanding the time required to finish it. Smile
(And at times you only made a situation somewhat worse but could still manage, others like poor inventory management or torch waste could be fatal and screw you over completely later on from what I remember.)

I played this, Deja Vu and Uninvited in Amiga.
These were the first adventures that I've played without being exclusively in text.

Gamers and retro gamers alike you are in for a serious treat today as Shadowgate, which is the new re-imaging of an incredible adventure classic originally from 1987, is now available for pre-order. The developers Zojoi have claimed that Shadowgate is the granddaddy of all "point and click" fantasy adventure games and NES favourite, and to be honest I completely agree with them!

Though Shadowgate veers for a classic atmosphere, Zojoi is adding some modern control mechanics into the mix, as well. Players can interact or use items with double-clicks. They can set UI shortcuts, such as binding 'Use' and an item to a single hot key assignment. They can also look back at previous moves, by expanding the text window on the bottom of the screen. Autosave will function in certain rooms (depending on the game's difficulty), but there's also a Quick Save function and multiple save slots available for use. These sound like minor additions, but they mean a lot in the near-20 years since the original Shadowgate released, adding just enough of a modern touch without compromising the game's graphic adventure atmosphere.

Played it for a bit, the game has a tutorial but it can be disabled, guides you through the various actions and the mechanics that this game uses such as using yourself on a lever to operate it or how to equip items like say a helmet.

Started on the journeyman (easy) difficulty but even though puzzles are simplified and mistakes more forgiving it's still possible to completely screw yourself by say burning a important piece of paper or letting the torch go out.

Liking it so far, don't remember much from the NES original but I think they've changed things around a bit should be fun trying to explore (survive) this new castle. Smile

EDIT: Screens.

Sounds good to me. Razz Haven't played the original despite owning the NES back then, because it wasn't exactly a game for children, so it will be nice to play it for the first time.

RPS tried it too: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/08/21/shadowgate-an-hour-with/
