You'd be surprised. Most gamers these days don't know any of the people behind games. Only dicks who step out into the public with neon signs like Pitchford do. Sid Meier's not known as a developer, people know him as "the name before Civilization". Wright, Miyamoto, ORLY all aren't public enough; people have heard of them but that's about it.
I actually like indie games, say defense grid or bastion, the thing that makes me angry are those emotional wrecks that are unable to say a fucking sentence without angsty emo artsy bullshit. Especially Indie Game the Movie did immeasurable damage to the perception of the creative indie scene. :/

My personal opinion is: if he or she is either designing or developing, ... it counts as game dev.
Producers are just enablers, financial backers, decision makers, communicators, connection makers, and so on ... they don't necessary need to know about games.
Yeah well, he's credited as the Lead Designer almost everywhere. HL Wiki was the only place that also mentioned writing, producing and so on. So I guess he did quite alot for OpFor.

not really the rape joke came from kotaku/gaf he just used it for twitter. He offends what he feels should be offended. Like so do many people. But he doesn't trash people, followers, gamers. He's eccentric, very introverted, and he does think highly of himself... but then again who wouldn't when your baby made you rich and famous over night?
