I am using MSE and I think it is good and all but I just want to check if it detects everything that could be possible to detects, malware, trojans, worms etc.

I was reinstalliing my friends notebook and he had norton on it.... I deleted the damn thing, installed avast and is started popping out tens/houndreds of threats Laughing
Norton lol wut

btw. After inserting my pendrive, (which I used to copy applications from my pc to his notebook) back into my pc, mse IMMIDIETLY ranged for alarm and said that "cool, no action is needed"

I don't want to install crap on my pc. MSE is excellet and light. I just want to do one time online scane to be sure if mse doesnt miss anything

Anymore, all my AV's have done have annoyed me with false positives and wanting to delete my keygens. So I just don't use them anymore. I'll use a firewall at most.

I'd like to know if there's anything better than my Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (Legit) with it's Firewall and up to date databases n stuff, since i don't want to update to it's 2014 version due to it blocking my Trillian's Notifications and stuff (it's like Windows 8,but on Windows 7 64bits HP)

Or if i should stay with my KIS and buy a license (1 day left though X_X;;; )

AVG's done the job for me. It's still the best option out there, imo.

Norton's not even worth a facepalm. I fail to fathom how so overpriced motherload of shit can be so useless in just about everything except abusing CPU. Yet so many companies fall for it. Guess they think the more you spend the better product you get.

Why you use both, MSE doesn't scan for spyware or adware, Different kettle of fish.

Between MSE, MWB and SAS nothing has went uncaught on my home network in years. And I got 2 teenagers online 8 hours a day.
Just run MWB and SAS every other week or so to catch the random spyware.

common sense

sandboxie for running sofware you're not sure about
+
windows firewall control - a more traditional, strict windows firewall user interface for all internet access
+
security essentials - very light, doesn't get in the way of using your computer at all and catches the usual suspects
+
virus total - because fuck it, nuke the entire site from orbit with everything we've got

w7+ fw is technically quite competent.. the default configuration is just shitty
with a proper configuration frontend it's actually usable - and very light

Windows Firewall has always been just a joke compared to just about anything. If you consider it to be good enough for you then by all means.

I will look into Sandboxie, though.

Windows Firewall has come a long day since early days. It's actually pretty mature.

I use Comodo on my laptop and I used Windows Firewall Control or something similar at least in the past. Works pretty well too.

even adobe pdf documents are being exploited in the wild.... impossible to make such claims as windows user

as user of a secure linux distro like debian, it's perfectly doable to remain safe but even there we have possibilities for malware, although chances are only 1% compared to windows and osx Razz

After many years of MSE use I give COMODO Antivirus FREE a shot and it is really one of the best one for a gaming PC. Damn light (less than 18MB of RAM) and it has HIPS/Sandbox etc features aswell if you want to use them

If you manage to try it remeber to uncheck useless COMODO apps (Dragon Browser, some browser extensions and toolbars etc..) during the installation.

Why do you always take my poking seriously Okay
I too manly use common sense* these days Razz, as MSE's only purpose seem to be to block my beloved Steam loaders and cracks lately. I still keep it installed because I naively think that I'm safer with it, but statistics don't lie in my case: I've had only one virus infection in the last years (nasty Sirefef), and MSE was sleeping...so did Malwarebytes.

It's perfectly safe to not use an antivirus on Windows as long as you don't go out of your way to download and run bullshit adware.

As long as you use an uptodate OS and browser with only the essential plugins (flash-only preferrably) and a firewall. And AdBlock Plus.

The practical chances of getting code running on your PC on a drive-by exploit on that configuration are *really* slim.
