Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announces Dying Light, a first-person, action survival horror video game with a portentous day-night cycle set in a vast open world. Currently under development by Techland, the game will be available in 2014 for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4, plus Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system, and PC.
During the day, players will traverse an expansive urban environment overrun by a vicious outbreak, scavenging the world for supplies and crafting weapons to defend against the growing infected population. At night, the hunter becomes the hunted, as the infected become aggressive and more dangerous. Most frightening are the predators which only appear after sundown. Players must use everything in their power to survive until the morning's first light.
"We are excited to partner with Techland on Dying Light, which is an original gaming experience for next-generation consoles," said Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President, Sales and Operations, Americas, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The partnership with Techland allows us to combine their successful development capabilities with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's one-of-a-kind publishing expertise to deliver on this title."
"The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle," said Paweł Marchewka, CEO of Techland. "Inventive free running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon-crafting to further enhance the action survival experience."
I hope it fucking isn't, not on the "whole" level that is. Keep Dead Island as it is if you want to do more games like that. This should be more serious with less of that arcade crap. I really have nothing else to say about it so far, besides the fact that it seems like a weird partnership... WB and Techland?!
yep so far it looks like more open Dead Island with Mirror's Edge-style(according to Polygon) freerunning and daynight cycle
And I don't mind that at all!
But what I'd really like to see is a game like this with more emphasis on survival and a slower pace. Screw unveiling the big conspiracy behind the zombie outbreak, I want to ransack malls for food and fight against marauding road gangs. Other humans, diseases/injuries and hunger/thirst should be your main enemies - zombies would be there just for some extra rotten flavor.

Just picturing a game like that in my mind makes me all wet.

We'll see - what I was talking about would be a full-blown sim game, rather than an action game with a secondary survival theme like this seems to be.
An improved Dead Island with more dynamic movements and world? Count me very interested!
Would be great if they finally changed their respawn system and level scaling though, as much as I liked Dead Island/Riptide, these aspects felt rudimentary to say the least. But I'm sure they'll come up with something good.
yeah but they aren't game breaking bugs.
that's the thing. little glitches here and there... maps going off and on, weapon duplication...
yeah save corruption sure... but aside from that... there really hasn't been a serious game breaking bug...
RT was a little bit lacklustre tho, at least for me. in DI i loved exploring, and in RT i didn't.
This one will be fun. If WB pushes them... then yes. If it's like the tech demo for DI back when flesh ripping, 1:1 damage, etc... i'm sold.
Awsome! Im currently playing through Riptide for the second time with my mate and before that we completed Dead island twice. This is really great news for a zombie worshipping cunt like me!
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
Take Dead Island's entire concept, subtract the role-playing mechanics, throw in freerunning features akin to Mirror's Edge, and set it all in an open world that feature. We immediately get to see some of the first-person freerunning features in action as your character rushes towards the drops before it gets dark. Your character is quite nimble and can climb virtually anything from buildings to telephone poles. This freerunning mechanic extends to combat, allowing you to pull off moves and attacks quickly. Your character's skills and abilities can be customized as well. There are over 1,000 weapon possibilities And yup, you'll even have to repair weapons as they can get damaged. There's this X-ray effect in place, so you get to see where you've broken bones on your enemies. I do love that you will be encountering some people who are in the process of turning into zombies. It's fresh if a little jarring. They'll act like a normal zombie, but once you inflict damage on them they'll scream out in pain like a normal human would.

Side missions will be randomly generated for you to seamlessly take on, and in this case you'll inspect a building to find a little girl hiding from her father who just turned into a zombie. There's going to be a lot of freedom in how you approach battles, and in an instance like this you could lead a group of zombies towards enemy humans to give you an upper hand. It's nightfall by this point, and that's when the more dangerous monsters come to play. For the demo though, the player does get spotted and some kind of giant dog-like creature chases after you. This sequence shows off the best of the freerunning mechanics as you hop over obstacles and vault over zombies while fleeing from the creature. The freerunning stuff looks like it could be better than what we got out of Mirror's Edge too, as there seems to be more freedom with what you can climb.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
