More interesting, though, was the company's next-gen display: a 5.1-inch panel sporting a stunning 2,560 x 1,440 (577 ppi) resolution. Viewed up close, it delivers crisp images, but the reflective display kicks back a silvery tint and colors don't pop as they do on other handsets. But while the sky-high pixel count may not tell the whole story, the screen offers one huge plus: a 6x power advantage over LCD and OLED displays. In practical terms, that means devices could go days without charging. Don't expect to see this guy in your next smartphone, though: by "next-gen," Qualcomm means this tech has a few more years in the R&D phase before it'll be ready to hit a licensee's production line. For now, make do with our hands-on video after the break. |

I can even see the difference in pixels between 1080p screens (clear difference between S4 and One screens)

Well talking about PPI, you can see a good difference between them, you clearly see the S4 has lesser PPI (441) then the One (469 PPI) and thus less sharper/clearer. 
So this 577 PPI is going to be really sweet

I don't see ANY difference at all. The resolution of 720p and above are so high on such a small screen, that I don't see a point to it.
again - I only had experience with Xperia Z compared to note 2, so maybe it gets better

In all fairness, you are pretty derpy.
So, the concept of evolution is lost on you, right? You keep saying you handled an Xperia Z, have you not seen the freakin' difference between 5.3" 720p and 5" 1080p?
Waste of CPU power? First of all, the screen rendering is done by the GPU, which, as you should know, GPU's have advanced A LOT in terms of raw processing power nowadays.
Look at the Nexus 10 or the iPad 3/4. These have current chipsets and GPU's and handle extremely high resolutions with absolutely no problems.

No difference at ALL.
Note 2 is 5.5 720p
z is 5 1080p
And sure- Note8 or tablets sure benefeits from 1080p but a 5incher ? HELL NO
In fact I think note2 screen looks better.
I've also handled S3 and it's screen was also fantastic.
It's all specs on paper, really hard to notice in normal usage. I can see the pixels if I take a photo of screen of my note 2 with a camera. But I cannot for the hell see a difference with my bare eyes.
Oh... and You are all the same - calling other people derp because they have their own opinion on things?
IN ALL FAIRNESS - I think You are derp if You believe the marketing which is made to sell more deveice while in fact there is no difference but "fuck yeah I now have 1440p 5' smartphone"

Dude, I freakin' work with handheld iOS and Android devices, I do quality assurance on them, I'm pretty fuckin' sure you're gonna like the S3 or Note 2 screens better because they have higher saturation because they're freakin' AMOLED's and simple ol' plain TFT like the Xperia Z.
Oh, and have I mentioned how build quality counts? Look at the difference between a Nexus 4 and an Xperia Z, you keep claiming screen res halts performance, yet the Xperia Z, which has absolutely the same chipset as the Nexus 4, surpasses the Nexus 4 on every front. Yeah, I'm sure as shit screen resolution had a hand in the final results.
It would be so great if you'd stop blaming me for telling you your opinion is bullshit when you yourself tell me everyone who doesn't agree with me is a derp, and then tell you've only handled an Xperia Z and have the Note 2 as a personal device. The display on Xperia Z is mediocre at best.
