I was looking at the Caanoo but seems like it still uses an underwhelming processor. Pandora is an amazing idea but the cost of that thing is a fucking joke.

I heard something about the PSP being good with homebrew shit? Now sure I like the LCD screen though.

I have the Wiz currently.

This will be moved to Handheld soon enough, but! Why do you specifically want "open source"? What benefits does that offer? The ability to play cracked games? The "open source" titles on any handheld are, not to put too fine a point on it, laughable. They're a joke. If you want to play pirated games or emulators, grab an Android handheld console. If you positively have to have "open source", you could also look into the GCW Zero -- though it's expensive for rather unimpressive hardware. Great emulation machine though, runs on Dingux just like the Dingoo.

Link me to some links sir Sabin. By open source I just meant open ended development, not locked down like the GBA where you in most cases have to use their shit.

Well the sad thing about open ended game development... is that there aren't many game developers releasing titles like that. I mean, the Wiz (and entire GP family) is great, but honestly; how many PROPER games, and not silly rubbish like Reversi clones, are out? That GTA clone? It's a pay for title too, and also the sequel is now out for iOS/Android Neutral

However, if you want some info;

http://dingoonity.org/

Everything about the Dingoo (not worth buying these days) but also doubles as a site for all open-source/Android/etcetera machines -- it's also the official home of the GCW Zero, a small open-source handheld built primarily for emulation. Same specs as the Neo-Geo Gold (1Ghz JZ4770 solo-core CPU, 512MB DDR2 RAM, 16GB storage + SD card) but open-source and running Dingux, a Dingoo variant of Linux, with a lot of emulators/ports already made for it. Dingoonity also hosts all the talk about SoC handhelds such as those from JxD (the 7300b is freakin' delicious and the upcoming quad-core version is even nicer) ---- JxD makes Android 4+ devices that are pre-rooted and come with hardware buttons, usually cloned from the likes of the Wii-U or PSP/Vita, so you can play emulators *and* the Android library.

The open Pandora`s are hard to come by nowadays.

But the Pyra is just around the corner

Don`t worry, this is a testing case to see that everything fits etc...

And if it's anything like the Pandora, it will be ball-shrivellingly expensive and eventually abandoned after a year or two :\

Wouldn't it be better to go with one of those Android devices?
Not that I know of many or tried any: JxD, Blazetab, GPD...

The Zero is awesome but, sadly, just a little too underpowered for anything more strenuous than SNES emulation with some PS1 - and, in the UK - comes with a hefty friggin' price tag too Sad Android comes with its own drawbacks, but the ever-improving hardware means the prices are so low now for what you get. I'm a JXD fanboy, their systems are consistently impressive and can even go as far as DC/PSP emulation. The S192 is a tad too expensive right now, but the 7800b can be had for less than a Zero.

I`m quite a bit hyped.

Only thing that`s missing is bluetooth :/

How about battery life? The last I heard the XD (have to keep adding empty bbcode to prevent it from being turned into grinhurt, lol...) has around 6hrs battery life during gaming, how does OCing hit that?

I have this thing since saturday. Flashed right away.
Can`t say much about battery time, but it`s astonishing. Charged full saturday morning and been using it several hours since then. Still more then 50% battery.
Dreamcast, SNES, NES runs flawless. Most PSP games are running great, too.
Played Ridge Racer for 2 hours or so. Runs great. Gran Tourismo does not :/
Played some Virtua Tennis 2, Mario Kart, Mario Bros. 3 NES and Mario All Stars, Ikaruga, Zero Gunner 2 and Under Defeat - having a blast =D
Will replay FFVII and VIII for sure maybe VI.

Family will be worried and ask themselves why the fuck my visits to the bathroom take so long in the coming weeks i guess...

Update after 2 weeks:
I LOVE THIS THING Very Happy

Playing snes and psp games most of the time. some easy games with my son (bust a move, kirby, some super mario).
I played countless hours Ridge Racer on ppsspp. Oh boy this game was (is!) so much fun.
It`s above 30 frames all the time, runs @100% without any hickups. Most psp games do run fullspeed, not all without frameskips.
Battery lasts a day. The thing runs on a constant 1800 MHz. 1d 11h - 4h sot brightness to it`s fullest. It`s almost depleted now. Only thing thats missing is bluetooth - but I knew that before I bought it.

Yes Smile

I always wanted some small htpc for all my stationary needs - but something always held me back (price mostly I guess).
With prices coming down more and more for those Intel SOC mini pcs I might get one of these sometime...

It's just the one screen though right? Does it render the DS games horizontally or vertically?

you can choose - you can arrange them and change size as you like - and then switch between sreens with a defined button.

I usually have different configs for different games.

There is a demo available in the playstore - just check it out!

wow, this thread is still going?

Kinda making me wanna get one of these things again since I got rid of my Wiz. That thing was cool but such a pain in the dick to get stuff installed and working.

That S192 looks pretty cool though.

Recent update on the GPD Win device: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gpd-win-intel-z8700-orz8750-win-10-os-game-console#/updates
Quote:
Dear Backer:

This is a really good news.

As the Intel was canceled Atom series chip,The next generation is Apollo lake,
Performance will be optimized, but the power consumption should be more heavy. We think this series chip will no longer suitable for portable devices.
So we may probably stop the GPD WIN 2.....

And we really hope can make the first generation products to be the best one. Also after multiple performance contrast,We found the performance of Z8700 is much improved compared to the Z8500.

So as many backers expect,we final decided to update the Z8550 into Z8700-Z8750. When mass production,If we can find a suitable supply for Z8750, we will use Z8750.If not,we will use Z8700.

It must be a really good news for your guys.right?

Really thanks for your support again!!

For reference, the Surface 3 (non-pro) also uses the Z8700.
