tegra... smartphones with it onboard get very hot and drain battery like crazy. Technology is indeed advancing in nvidia direction..
3d fps games are almost impossible to play on touch screens anyway

It's really impressive, how fast technology advances in smartphones/tablets.
With a bluetooth keyboard and mouse you can have a very nice device.
And regarding touch controls, yes they suck in shooters. Thats why i bought a PS3 controller. Playing Shadowgun multiplayer for example is so much more fun with it.

Well, of course, nVidia feels the pressure and actually has motivation to advance technology instead of stomp in the same place.

That's just a small Kepler GPU, that's not Tegra 5 just yet - which we won't see until late next year anyway. This demo was not run on an actual SoC
It's also not quite the same as BF3 on a full blown GPU of course.
I also suspect that PowerVR will already be able to do what Nvidia do there - except they'll be doing it this year. Keep in mind that that Nvidia has been playing catch-up with IT, the SGX543/544 are still fucking amazing products and they're THREE years old now. Well ahead of Nvidia's Tegra.

Didn't they say Tegra 5 will incorporate a Kepler GPU, tho?

What's stunning there? It's a butt-ugly version of BF3 - the latest Modern Combat easily owns it gfx wise.

Well done, you just compared a cropped, hand-held cam shot of a big screen with a full resolution screenshot. Awesome.

I knew those comments would come, but! 90% of the video shows us those absolutely ugly interiors (one interior). No lighting, no shooting, no explosions (oh, a grenade explosion burn on the floor and an intact overturned table). That's how you showcase a game engine today? Orly.
The only thing that looks good in the video is the sequence with hummvees, palm trees and soldiers, but those are animations from BF3, they can be played in any engine after some conversion. And notice the horrible jaggies - apparently it runs @ 320x240.
So come on, I know MC4 has props the same quality as those armchairs from BF3 above, what I wanted to say that this video does NOT in any way show anything AWESOME, jawedropping or innovative.
P.S. and I didn't crop it. it's a screenshot from the vid. they were intentionally showing THIS as some kind of tech achievement

The blocky chairs and whatnot are from a game running on an iPad (it's probably MC3) and they actually show footage of BF3 running on Kepler mobile.

Yeah I lolled at that too. The cropped BF3 vid looks hell of a lot better than the MC4 shot above.

I don't get how people are confusing the two, he even says "an iPad game", dafuq.

Oh well, sorry then, just a bad video cut I guess. I thought that a video that is supposed to show BF3 on T5 would be 90% BF3 on T5 and not the blocky interiors. And I didn't even crank up the sound (
But anyhow that slow walking scene with humvees and horrible jaggies shows nothing until it shows real gameplay. Until then it might just as well be BF3 assets running on some engine.

You can always hook up a bluetooth controller or something, some/most games do support this.

I also read this hands-on: http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/14/4329008/nvidia-shield-price-specs-release-date-preorders-begin-hands-on-preview
It's ridiculous... $350, they cut the storage from 32gb to 16gb, it requires a dual band router (so you have to replace your router if you don't have a dual band), you can only stream a handful of games from your PC and not every android app works since the device is locked into landscape mode... oh and yeah, before i forget! Have an AMD graphics card? You're fucked, since it only works with Nvidia 6xx and up... Seriously, what's the point of even releasing this right now. Rather just get a Vita/3ds for your handheld needs.
