When I used to play CS S it would run smooth on medium settings... Now that its been updated and has new models etc its jumpy even on low setting.

My Specs are Ok, but I think I need to upgrade something so what do you think I need to upgrade ?

Currently I have

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512mb SDRam PC133
Geforce 4 ti 4200 128MB Version

Im a gamer on a low budget by the way Razz

to me I think Its my RAM thats dragging my system down and I think its time for a strip of DDR Ram. what do you think?

Ill invest in some soon... I just did a Spyware scan and found this Spyware called "ShopAtHome"... maybe that was reducing my FPS.. wil try later

Do the usual: Tuneup utilities 2004, defrag harddrive with Diskeeper, disable unnecessary stuff in the startup setting and put the cache file on another smaller partition. Best would be on another drive.

I have to Hard Drives -

1 for the OS
1 for games (Where CS S etc is installed)

Is it best to set the Cache file on the Harddrive with the OS or the Hard Drive with the Games??

Also Is Diskeeper better than the standard Windows Defragger? Ill try Tuneup 2004 Very Happy

In your case I would make a small partition (4gb) on the main disk and put the cache files there. The cache file should be 1.5 times the size of your ram. So if you have 512mb ram you should have a 768mb cache file. And yes, Diskeeper is much better than the standard defragger.

How do I make a Partition without reformatting the drive? I have only ever made a Partition when formatting my hard drive Smile

why is my Ram always at least 50% used up?? Is that normal ?

In the Performance part of Tune up under where it says "Kernel" How many Files are suposed to be open?? On mine it says "Open Files 6267" Is that not alot ?

well i have a 4200ti.... what drivers are you using? i get 60fps on CS:S on medium settings although i do lag sometimes Sad its not that often.

Steve-O 2004 - You can make/remove and edit partitions with Partition magic. Try to get the latest available version. And that processor usage could be because of a virus, trojan or a spyware. I recommend using Nod32 and Microsoft antispyware.

Diskeep says Drive D (The Drive with my Games on) has a Read Time of 183 Seconds... that sounds long compaired to the C drive where it said a few milli seconds Sad

Defragged the D Drive (My games Drive) and the Read Time dropped from 183 seconds down to 0.01 Micro Seconds Very Happy

I think that might have been my problem Smile
