OK I just went to windows update to check for updates and it told me that my product key is invalid after scanning for updates, I have SP2 RC2, I went on yesterday with no probs and didnt download anything else. I have the winXP pro corp Devilsown version. I also brute forced my key for the corporate version. Can anybody tell me wtf is wrong? Is anybody else with a pirated copy getting this message?

install sp2 only when its official.
Quote:
Contrary to the remarks it made to the ComputerTimes, Microsoft now claims that it will not permit users who have obtained Windows XP illegally to upgrade to its latest service release. Instead, the software giant will continue to enforce compliance with its licensing.

In a nutshell, Microsoft group product manager Barry Goffe told ComputerTimes that Windows XP Service Pack 2 would not exclude pirated copies from upgrading, and that it was more important to keep user safe than to be "concerned about the revenue issue."

To clarify its position, a Microsoft spokesperson told BetaNews, "Press reports indicating Windows XP Service Pack 2 will install on pirated or illegal copies of Windows XP are not entirely true. Prior to installing, SP2 will check the OS' product ID (PID) against a list of known pirated PIDs. If a PID is found to be invalid, SP2 will not install."

yes I have changed my cd key, turns out MS got smart to that XPKeys.exe keygen, any key genned by it will NOT work with v5 of windows update. I genned using a newer keygen and vola it works.

He sorry about the post in the os help forum I missed it Smile . The big problem is not Windows update but SP2 because it will contain very important features that are not present in those small patches.

Wrong. As Omego2K pointed out, the newest keygen works just fine. Plus, it generates keys instantly, rather than in minutes like the old one.

I'm thinking of the keygen that makes keys for Windows XP (Corp and Retail), Office XP, and Windows Server 2003 (Corp). It makes them instantly and they work with Windows Update version 5 on XP SP2. I just tested this morning.

Well, by now WU v5 has gone live even without u installing SP2..

Try pointing to WU v4 and it'll re-direct u to the new v5.. Think M$ shutdown v4 to FORCE all to install and lock out old keys..

If v5 goes well, I believe OfficeUpdate will get the same fate and all those using Office2k3 might encounter the same problem..

Wish someone can release a new KG for Office2k3 b4 M$ hit us back..

It exists... Wink I personally got a chance to test one of the keys with Office 2003 Professional (MICROSOFT.OFFICE.SYSTEM.PROFESSIONAL.V2003-ISO), and it works for installation and Office update...

It's now a matter of time that M$ will block all officeupdate for those leaked keys.. Confused
