In light of the recent talk of the old C&C series I thought I would bring this slightly older game up! : I didn't drag up an age old thread as I felt it would be a little stupid given the amount of time its been out!

http://www.planetcnc.com/renegade/

What are your opinions? Thoughts? Want to see a sequal?

Mods? Hacks? etc..

Personally I love the game, I re-installed it this afternoon so I can play over the weekend, its just as good now as it was at Beta and release (assuming they fixed the nasty lag issues in mulitplayer).. I'm going to look into buying this tomorrow to play online, well, assuming I move away from WOW enough to play another game Razz! Is it worth it?

Yes C&C Renegade & Westwood's online space game made them go bust.
I think Renegade got a roasting as it came out very late & the graphics had moved on, etc. Those Tiberian monsters were naff Smile

I finished it & quite liked it - it wasn't a great game but it was okay.
No sequel planned from what I have heard

i hated renegade and the mp platform was no better either, i couldnt go on public servers without at least 1 person hacking. i had to go on my m8s clans server [ulf] just to get a half decent game going. single player was too boring, it tried to have large fights but it didnt immerse me and i found i spent a lot of my time just following an arrow.

It was kind of cool, didn't like how you couldn't re-build, or just build. Yes I know it would have made some drastic changes to the play style, but meh, I would have preferred repairable bases and such.

I remember when they patched in the flying vehicles, that was a lot of fun. And the stealth tanks were just plain cool.

This was a good game for it's time, I had a lot of fun with it. I'm afraid it's collecting dust now. Razz

its not too bad now that renguard or whatever is out (like cheating death in CS) pretty much no hacks are around but its just out dated now.

would be cool if there would be a mod for far cry where you can import the maps of C&C1.
I remember that they wanted to implement this feature in renegade but unfortunately they havent.

I have no experience with mods but I don't think it would be a big problem to do it. C&C1 was created with tiles, if you make a 3d model for every tile then you would have it. similar to trackmania.
hell we could make a mod for trackmania. the engine would be perfect to do so.

back to topic, i loved renegade and it really sux that there will be no sequel. btw the screenshot looks nice. not even outdated...

edit: ok forget what I wrote. I never heard of Renegade Alert

iam really looking forward to the time that the games look REAL cause u dont have update your pc than.................. cause it cant look more real than real !

Chaingun!

This game was definitely one of the best FPSs I've ever played. Absolutely amazing story and it was great seeing things from Tiberian Sun in 3D, like Tiberium and the harvester vehicle, if that's the right name. Absolutely amazing.

I got this game for Christmas 2003 (along with UT2004), after seeing a friend play it.

Wow I installed it early this morning, logged on to find a few servers packed!

Im talking 32 player server's, I cant believe so many people still play this. If you update the game to the latest patch, the lag is no longer a big issue.

LOL! The game will look so dated at first, but it still has that extreme fun we all loved awhile back. I might be playing this for the next two weeks, until Brothers in Arms comes out. Smile

WTF...

Both WNxStealth and General Jafar wrote in to mention that Aircraftkiller of hosted Renegade Half-Life 2 Battlefield 2 mod Renegade Alert has announced the team is switching to... the Battlefield 2 engine.

It looks like we're going to switch over to the Battlefield 2 engine. It's graphically superior to Source and is also more user friendly. In addition to this, it supports vehicles for online play and also has heightmap terrain generation.

Sorry to all of you who were looking forward to a Source version, but we go where opportunity is

Back in the day i had fun with the SP of this game, and especially playing MP with friends. I just reinstalled it too. Maybe some of us guys should hook up and host a game Razz Oddly this game still gets a little choppy framerate-wise with 32 players even with my 9800pro and am64 =o Still very nice tho and tons of fun Very Happy

I thought the singleplayer was crap but the multiplayer was fantastic. Wasted alot of hours playing that!
