I usualy use a microphone -> mixer -> line-in setup.
you kinda need that if you have a real microphone and not just a cheapo computer mic.

If you only have 3 plugs your system is 2.1 and not 5.1 ready.
edit
Ok, I checked your card and It seems you need some kind of bracket for the surround. I only checked the pic and not the manual.

If its on board there is probably an internal jumper that your meant to connect to the front panel that has a MIC in on it. You might want to check the manual.

On my card you can do that with the software settings. And when you want both surround and mic you need to use the bracket.
