Hi,

I'm planning to buy a PC to display hdrips on my 720p LCD TV. Which gfx should I buy? And what about the output, is DVI able to handle 720p right?

I think 8500GT/8600GT are the best choice for media PCs. The AMD are fine too, but they have some issues with video quality and drivers.

definatly, I use DVI for my monitor when watching HD's. Some cards come with an HDMI slot too, I'll see if I can dig one up.

I'm sure it'll come with everything you'll need, if not it should be available on their site or someones site. If your going for gaming I wouldn't bother with this card, this is more for HTPC.

As I need it as a mediapc _and_ workstation I planned to get a system like that:

Mainboard: Asus Commando
Cpu: c2d e4300 + Thermaltake BigTyp 120
Ram: Corsair DIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 EPP Kit
Gfx: ??? something from 40-100eu (only for hd, no gaming and other shit)
Hdd: 2x Samsung 250gig sata2 16mb + external 500gigs
Case: Thermaltake Soprano
Audio: Creative x-fi
Psu: Be Quiet! 450watt

I am sure on everything except the gfx.

450W PSU... Sad I recommend you get at least a 550W PSU for those specs.

What for?

Cpu: 65watts
gfx: ~60watts
hdds: 2x30 watts

those are the three factors sucking off most power. which is like 190watts in total. so you wanna tell me that the rest (dvd-burner, 3 fans, mobo, sound) needs 260watts?

With an e4300 and 2gig ddr2 an 8500/8600 would be a bottleneck, tho fit for purpose if you don't want to play the latest games with high settings. If you can hold off until November hopefully you'd be able to get a mid-range 9 series nvidia, tho you may end up waiting til December tbh. Never a perfect time so it's all about budgets really..

You may get away with a decent 450w PSU but be careful if you're looking to overclock

roCcor they always seem to require more than that in real usage and calculators are shite..

From my experience be quiet! are rockstable psus. And even if i double the usage from 190 to 380 it would fit. So I guess it's enough. I hate this things with gfx. Never there's a perfect time Very Happy
