I don't really think it'll actually happen but how stupid are interplay. They try to capitolize on the fallout franchise in every way except the smart way, give the fans what they want, fallout 3. Especially since it's already half finished.
Not to mention who would buy a MMORPG which requires constant support and server usage from a company that could declare bankrupcy at any moment.

the wording they used was kinda of tricky. what the realy said was they would use titles such as fallout to fund a future MMO. They never said fallout was acctualy going to be a MMO they only stated it was going to be posably used.

Wont happen unless another company developes it and Interplay just licenses it off. Kinda like how StarWars Galaxies was done... but that wont happen. Lets all hope Interplay goes under quick and thier licenses get passed off to good developers.

True the universe is it's very strong point, but you know as well as me that no company will be able to do it justice - just look at Star Wars. Everything is about streamlining and making money, not artistic value.
Plus online you will have people who don't respect the enviroment or other players and break any atmosphere they could possibly create.

What I meant is that sure the universe is cool, but the reason why people loved the original two games was for the awesome characters, great plot, and sense of freedom. (and Dogmeat)
To me, that would be totally offset by 12 year olds going "omg n00b dethclow is not KILLLED IDIOT!" Interplay are just being idiots in even considering that course of action when it's obvious what game the fans want. Also, Fallout 3 would actually sell quite well, seeing as how there are about 0 promising RPG's coming out, whereas everyone are making MMORPG's with far more widespread and popular worlds (WarCraft, Middle Earth)
I used the StarCraft example since we all know it's a cool universe, and would make an ok fps, but that's not what the game is about.

Oh I agree, but while I'm not naive in expecting anyone can do it justice I think that the converging of the two (single & multi) effecitvely is not impossible, especially with a top down game like fallout where more concentration on the details is possible.

jesus guys you think peeps at interplay are dumb??? they KNOW we want fallout 3.... if its any game they are making ,it'll be fallout 3 to bail their asses out, i BET if any fallout game is being made fallout3 single player is part of it

why does every new game has to be an mmorpg ?? Where is the old singleplayer rpg's.. the ones you can play for yourself all night.. and dont bother with other ppl ?!?!?

Who says you can't play alone in a MMORPG? Hell in EQ1 I use to solo all the time with my monk or necro. Thats the beauty of MMORPG's the tons of options not available in offline rpgs.
(Not against single player rpgs, I love them and am so waiting for Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy XII)

Gone the same way adventure games did. There is no need for plot, interesting charaters and involving gameplay anymore. I would have to say Baldur's Gate 2 was the very last great RPG we will get.
