Which one is better quality: HR HDTV Xvid from CTU, or HDTV DVDR from BamHD? I'm trying to decide which one to get.

HDTV DVDR is better quality then HDTV Xvid but
1. dvdr is much bigger in size (4,7gb) while xvid is 700mb or maybe 1400mb
2. only if you have a really good trained eye you would see differences in quality cause xvid is also really good quality and the system they use to rip it (how much they can decrease the quality) has to do with human perception. dvd will be sweeeeet but a good xvid can also be sweeeeet (i did informatics in school). if you find the explanation confusing please tell me
3. the xvid you mean propably is a rip from a dvd so they will cut out the subtitles, other languages then english and extras. if you want these get the dvdr
if you have a max of bandwidth get the xvid, if you really cant live without the extras get the dvdr

I haven't seen hdtv dvdr but I've checked hr hdtv once and I usually watch standard hdtv xvid, and the quality/resolution of hr hdtv is much higher. Isn't hdtv dvdr just hdtv with dvd quality (non compressed) but with dvd resolution and not hr resolution (720*xxx)?
edit:
So if my theory is right:
hr hdtv xvid - high resolution (720*XXX), hdtv source compressed with xvid codec, still same resolution, avi format
hdtv xvid - standard res (624*XXX), hdtv source compressed with xvid codec
hdtv dvdr - standard res, non compressed hdtv put on dvdr
If that's correct (?) i would choose the hr release off course. If you watch it through a high res tft tv screen It's recommended but if you have a tube based tv you should go for a lower resolution release.

It has been proven that xvid is much better then divx. It has about the same compression ratios, but looks much better in the end.

Maybe 3.11 but I don't see any major differences with the new DivX pro 5.21.

xvid or divx 5.001, people should understand that it has no substantial difference, no other algoritms.( both mpeg4) It just has another action/data ratio distribution.
anyway yeah i meant xvid instead of divx.

Well I am building a HTPC and will just load them as isos of the hdd. I wish there were more 1080i (around 1920 x 1080?) TVs in Sweden. Found only one or two for 80 000 krones whih is around 11000+ USD

It's more like a must to watch HR on such a screen. Standard dvd and hdtv looks pixelated on such screens.
