True, in games of early 80/90s women were often captured and the goal was to free them. HOWEVER- do you think it was because of a sexualized trope, treating women as an object, a "prize" if you will? No.
It was because the main audience (men) care about women, even in a form of a video character. Developers knew that- creating a character (a woman) that you care about makes a psychological bind- I care about this character, I want her to be free and not be imprisoned by this ape/evil guy/whatever.
if anything, playing a female character is more sexist then saving one. i for one always pick chicks in third person games so im at least staring at a chick's ass not some guys

Yup. A long video to effectively say nothing. That was some trope 101 stuff there... and she repeated a lot of the basics over and over. By the end of the video we're still talking about stuff you can understand just by knowing what the trope is and having a brain.
The worst part was that it was so ridiculously first order that it really does a disservice to the topic. 'Woman needs help? -> Supports Patriarchy' is a ridiculous link to make without having a deeper look at the writing, cinematography, our culture, and the details of the character herself.
Of course, the examples (in this first video at least) are so old that none of the characters (in the 'entity' sense) are true characters (in the literature sense) and none of the stories are narratives. Given these examples it's impossible to find good examples of 'women needing help' in narratives.
But guess what? It is completely and absolutely possible to write a really good female character who is victimized, or made powerless, or needs help, even ones who specifically need help from a man.
I do not think the "damsel in distress" trope is in any way sexist or intended as such. It's a natural conclusion of what your audience is and how creative you are. (The many many many older games she cited in this video aren't exactly masterfully crafted stories).
She strikes me as a person who has been taught many things but never learned anything. She has a predetermined point of view and is simply trying to push that view on others. At the same time ignoring what she could learn from her own information.
She doesn't present any kind of argument, only a brief and very insubstantial history lesson on pretty much the most common literary device in all of fiction (laughably suggesting that Andromeda is literally the original). Her reference to the WW1 recruitment poster as a meme is also strange. The problem is that her argument is an incredibly easy one (a lot of games use the damsel in distress trope, and that can easily be sexist) but there is no attempt to explore the greater cultural context, the psychological reasons why, or any kind of deep analysis. It's an argument we've seen many times before, repackaged with nothing new to say.
@Neon watch those two videos. In the first one, her graduation thesis it's revealed as an empty piece of paper, with no original ideas and loads of quotes of what other people said. She can't even form her own opinion. I see a future politician there...

well todays make up, fancy sexy clothes, etc are a product of the sex sells media which is dominated by men... a man sees a sexy outfit on tv he buys it for his girl. girl sees a model wearing a nice outfit that looks sexy she wants it. Because everyone else on the show/magazine praises the outfit and says how sexy it is.
So yes... women wear make up, wear sexy skimpy outfits because the media tells them to wear such things to be more attractive. Women with weight/skin disorders/ugly syndrome are told that they can get any man if they show cleavage, wear expensive make up and put out.
And they all do that. It's in our genes now to the point where you don't see it as the media telling you who to be, but you 'decide' who to be.
But anita isn't a feminist. she's a entertainer feminist. she'll talk to girls, sleep with boys, buy things that objectify women ($1000 dollar shoes and post it on twitter) because it's ok for her to do so. I mean how many vegans out there do you see telling people not to eat meat and then make themselves a nice juicy steak at home?
