YO!

I am getting a RGH tomorrow, it's a falcon HDMI phat, running a RGH. It's a 120gb hard drive.

I know very little more, apart from the fact it has a quick boot time and obviously works.

I am not sure what dash it's running, but a quick search on the internet suggests it shouldn't be too hard to update it(?)

Is there anything I need to know? Any recommended guides I should read? This is completely new territory for me! I am only paying £80 so it's hardly a massive risk, but I am wondering if there is anything I should be checking in advance?

CHEERS!

Also, there seems to be a lot of information / approaches to running XGD3 games. I assume all new x360 games are XGD3 now - but it doesn't look like it's a problem for those on rgh? Any of you guys got the "best way" to run XGD3 games?

Also, what is the purpose of using ISO2GOD? Is it just so that I can play a game from the hard drive without the need to have a disk in the drive?

with RGH/JTAG you run everything from HDD. forget xgd3, burning dvds and all that, it's irrelevant on RGH.
use iso2god to convert iso into GoD (games on demand) format, ftp it to hdd and play.

If I were to get an RGH or JTAG 360, what would become of all the games I've burned to disc over the years? Can they be extracted to HD easily?

yes. you can make iso from your burned games on your PC and then run them in iso2god program and finally transfer to xbox. or if you have flashed dvd drive in your rgh/jtag, you can even install your games like you normally do, and then run nxe2god from within xbox to remove dvd check Very Happy

Question- the Xbox I am getting is running dash 2.0.14717.0

Google suggests this is over a year old now? If so, I assume its easy to update to the newest dash?

yes very easy to update, first time might be scary, so just follow this guide and you'll learn it in no time http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/413-quick-and-easy-way-to-update-your-jtagrgh/

I would get an extra external usb HDD with 500GB and up for all the Games you desire.

http://www.xbox360iso.com/tutorial-easy-way-t636463.html for the dash update if you have problems with the first link.

Ok question for you folks - I use Mac OS X and cannot be bothered to install paralolz, so given there doesn't seem to be a copy of ISO2GOD for Mac OSX, is there any way I can put the ISO file onto my external hard drive, and then get the Xbox 360 to convert it into a GOD file? Or do I NEED to use windows?

If the latter, i'll just have to transfer it over to my windows based media server - but that's a ball ache!!

No. If you download a game, you just have to extract the .iso with like Xbox Image Browser and then move it to your external via ftp.

Thanks. Last question, using Freestyle dash can I transfer things from an external USB drive (formatted in NTFS) across to the FAT32 internal drive?

If i understood you correctly, no you cant. BUT you can make an extra partion for it, format like 250GB from the external USB drive to FAT32.

http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

edit: but like i said, you can use a ftp client to transfer your files from your PC to your internal hdd, FSD has ftp'ing integrated.

FTP is rubbish though, specially as it'd be over wifi (assuming this xbox I am getting even has wifi!)

I guess I COULD run a ethernet cable... BOO...

maybe I'll do the formatting thing. I wonder if i can take my existing drive, with my existing data, and format PART of the empty space to FAT32 without risking my existing data. I'm gonna guess NO Razz

I use FTP over wifi all the time, its slow ~2.2MB/s - 40min for a game to transfer, but it does the job, since iam to lazy to connect the drive to the PC every time Embarassed

I think PartitionMagic' could do that without erasing existing data.

@Horrordee : good thing to know if you are on OSX, you can use XBOX Backup Extractor, to extract ISOs simply using Wineskin (free), or Crossover (shareware). So no need to reboot into Windows or use VMWARE/Parallels.

Don't mess with ISO2GOD, useless IMHO.

I'm not too sure about Wine to use the tools to update your JTAG/RGH though, so i'd rather boot a proper windows for that since you only do it once in a while.

Cheers dude!!

Ok so I finally got everything running. Had the box on all evening and the RAM and GPU temps were like 74c and 78c according to FSD3. The fans however didn't go above the lowest setting - which I thought was odd.

I then kicked up a game (GOW3) and played for 20 minutes, jumped back to dash and the temps had actually dropped to 72/74c.

I assume these are high, but normal. It was a very warm room and it's in a shelving unit. Should I be worried? You'd think it'd turn the fans up higher if it was a problem...! BTW it's an HDMI falcon, pretty old, phat style box. My old non-hdmi box is much nosier tbh!

Well I had a bit of a worrying evening with the new xbox.

I transfered over two new games, Tomb Raider and Crysis 3, however when playing Crysis 3, during the tutorial level the game crashed - a notification relating to some error came up and it crashed back to dash. I then decided to try Tomb Raider, and during the opening scene (where she jumps from the boat), the console just froze with an audio loop.

I was starting to really worry, however I thought back to the night before where I'd transfered and played GOW3 fine for 20 mins... so after panicing for a bit, I decided to try transfering the Crysis 3 again... this time, no crashes. I assume there must have been a problem with FileZilla when I did my transfering session earlier in the evening. I did keep getting connection time outs, but it was set to retry the files it failed on. I don't think there were even any errors when transfering C3 but obviously there must have been.

I'm hoping when I play it tomorrow I do not continue to have any issues, and the games run fine. There was no RRoD, the temps were still high but not too high, and given both crashes were very different (one was a crash to dash, the other a proper freeze), I'm hoping it was bad transfers and not a problem with the console.

I doubt it matters much, but I am actually using Freestyle Dash 3 but for some reason it's not detecting any of the games I've put in Games:\ - so I am finding the xex for the game in the file manager and launching from there. I'll have to work on getting the paths working tomorrow I guess...

I had the same problems a few times when transferring files via ftp, but thats not very often like 1 of 100 games, files are corrupt. The crash to dash has to be software based.

If you get problems frequently there is something wrong with the settings of the xbox, or the xbox itself somehow. How high were the temps? u could try to set the fan to 60% and up, if u are scared of a RRoD^^

http://www.ixtreme.net/open-forum/28589-temps-falcon-rgh-2-0-a.html

delete your fsd-db and scan your games manually, hope that helps?

Thanks for all of your comments.

I was definitely having some FTP issues, so I am putting it down to that at the moment. During transfer Filezilla was reporting connection lost while transfering files, and moving them to the failed section. I was then re-adding them to the queue. I highly suspect that during this mess, some stuff got corrupted. I am hoping that, anyway.

After playing, temps have never entered the 80s, so I am hoping it's not a temp thing. They're always in the 70s after 5 minutes of doing anything (starting lower). The console has had it's "X-Clamps" removed, which I'm told means it's less likely it'll RRoD?

Deelix, I would love to use hard drive transfer via USB, however all of my games are downloaded to a massive NTFS drive, and as far as I'm aware Freestyle Dash won't read the NTFS drive in order to let me copy the folder onto the internal FAT32 drive. So for the time being, until I buy another new drive for the sole purpose of 360 games which I can format to FAT32, then I am where I am! Smile

meh don't understand fascination with USB HDD for 360 or ps3. i see only disadvantages using them, games load slower from them and to transfer games you need to keep connecting it to pc then back to console and then back to pc and again and again... seems really awkward setup...

ftp to internal is a way to go Smile
