|

Hi guys,
Yesterday, my brand new Alienware arrived, and I was so looking forward playing the new titles in all their glory.
I've never had such a gaming rig as an Alienware, and there's a lot of stuff that can be configured. I'm not all that familiar with FXAA, FSAA, Catalyst AI, so I initially left all those things alone.
I updated the display, audio and chipset drivers to their latest version and launched the first game: Tomb Raider. The hard disk has a separate SSD partitiion of 32GB, so I installed the game here.
So I put everything to the max (except the hair ), and ran the benchmark. Result: 7 FPS on average
Lowered the graphics to High, which increased FPS to 14
So... what am I doing wrong here? I'm sure I should be able to run Tomb Raider at acceptable FPS in at least High settings.
I tried playing around in the Catalyst Control Center, but I don't really know what I'm doing here. I figure that the settings ingame are good enough.
Here are the specs:
Processor : 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3740QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost
2.0)
Memory: 12288MB 1600MHz Dual Channel DDR3 (2x2GB + 2x4GB )
Hard Drive : 750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD
Graphics : 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M (driver: 8.973.0.0)
Sound Card : Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di with THX TruStudio Pro Software
Operating System : Dutch Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64 BIT)
Any advice on settings in CCC? Any graphics settings that I might have to lower/disable (in game or outside)?

Are you sure the laptop is plugged to wall when playing? The battery alone cant give enough juice for the GPU and CPU, which results in very bad fps. Also i would just install the game on the HDD. You dont need to do anything in the CCC, game has options. I would disable the TressFX hair effect on that 7970M, rest can be on highest possible (instead of SSAA, use FXAA).

Yes, it looks and feels great, really top quality all round. It should be, for that price, but I know I'll be good with it for at least 3 years so still a good invest I think.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
