Suggestions welcomes.
Keep in mind I am dealing with a MacBook Pro late 2011 model.
I had it. It was bloody beautiful. Did a thunderbolt to HDMI cable and it worked for 2 weeks. Then outta the blue it lost connection never to connect again. I have done some searching and it looks like the cable burns out. LOGiiX.
1) - If I go with a apple brand will it work and stay working?
I looked into this apple TV but lets face it. I don't do netflix, I download everything and my understanding is that I have to convert everything I have so ITunes will play them.
2) - But I can mirror my Mac with Apple TV right? So my way of thinking is that I could mirror MPlayer BUT then I read that the compression is weak through Airplay and my picture and sound go outta sync. at least with macs before mid 2011. So this is a shit option as well.
3) There is a mini display port option to HDMI. Anyone play around with that one? Any problems?
4) There are TV's that play through USB's. I heard what they can play is pretty limited and that the firmware is never updated? Anybody have experience with that?

I use a converter for MDP to HDMI on my MacBook Air, and it works great. I ordered some cheap cable from Ebay, 10$? Something like that, more than a year now, works great.

Apple TV would require you to jailbreak it to make it useful (because then you can install XBMC). Airplay is decent, but not good enough for streaming any decent quality; far inferior to HDMI anyway. There are better mediaplayers out there; TVs aren't quite there yet, they will be soon enough, but not yet.
Just get the MDP -> HDMI cable like Leo says, that'll work fine

Thanks. I never buy off Ebay. Too many problems.
But is that one going to go the way of my other thunderbolt/HDMI and burn out. http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1225333.html Seems like there are issues with that as well. I may have to buy some Apple brand.
Looks like some content restrictions as well "Mini DisplayPort's HDCP extension disables playback of certain DRM-encrypted content on any display not designed for it. This includes some content from the iTunes Store[8] which has no such restrictions if played on a Mac without Mini DisplayPort." Althou I think that wont be an issue for me.
After I do some more research on this- there is one guy at the one Apple store I go that knows his shit. I need to have some information first. Take my macbook in with me and say hook it up. Bring my defective cable in with me and confirm the cord is hooped cuz I'm 99% sure it's not my settings or resolution, or PRAM.

This just means that the display you connect it to has to support HDCP, which is basically all of them really
HDCP = copy protection.
