|
 |
well i am at a point where i don't know what to read.
so sugest some books to me, please.
there are three simple rules:
no books based on games, tv-series or movies (vice versa is fine)
no books about politics, social behavior or religion (no marx, no nietsche etc)
ok make that 2 rules. of course the rules don't apply if the books are really good. hey...so forget about the rules but don't bore me with mechwarrior, resident evil or shaddowrun books please.
books about stuff that really happened is ok, but i prefer fiction. i've read hunter s thomson and enjoyed it, so if you know him (fear and loathing, hells angels) you know what i mean when it comes to stuff that really happened.
at last here are the obvious pics you don't need to name but should give you a drift in the direction i am looking:
all of hunter s. thomson. lotr, hobbit, simarillion, asimov, dark elves (namely drizzt), dan brown stuff, arthur c clark, harry potter, elric, illuminatus, jule verne, poe, lovecraft, king, wells, narnia, thomas harris, dragonlance, that bowling for columbine dude....i always forget his name....that's just what came into my head for now...
good kids books are welcome too since i am still a child in mind. thanks a lot.
now it up to you to make me laugh, cry, forget about sleep and modding duties...
yours truely
toeffy
i should write letters to congress, hey....oh books about drugs are cool too hehe
jesus christ was a gangsta rapper. they killed him. he came back and made a platinum album.

'Survivor' and 'Choke'. Both were written by Chuck Palahniuk (author of fight club).

You liked dreamcatcher? i didn't think it was his best book. my bro is a huge fan of SK. i like rage it's pretty short and reminds me of the columbine massacre (see the film bowling for columbine by the fat man moore) even though bfc isnt anything about the book the story of a kid goin crazy in school and killing people kinda adds a non-fiction element to the story
i've not read a book (voluntarily) for a year or more just mostly magazine's.
edit: no joke... i didn't read all of his post just the 2 rules thing and then the rest of the thread. he mentions the bowling for columbine

If you dont mind reading a series that hasn't been completed yet, I suggest you read Steven Erikson's books: Malazan, book of the Fallen. It's fantasy, a tough serie to read but once you get drawn into the story and characters, you'll get hooked, I'm sure. To me, it's the best fantasy I've ever read.
Small consolation for the fact the series isn't complete yet: the writer delivers on his promises, he is keeping a steady pace in writing and he has set the number of books the series will consist of (10, so far he has written 5 and 6 will appear feb next year) so its not like some series the appear endless.

The wheel of time Is one of the few fantasy series I've been reading. I've tried to get into "Terry Pratchet's" books and "the Lord of the rings" but this Robert Jordan's serie took me for good. Unfortunately I haven't read the latest books as I only read ebooks and haven't found the warez version of the latest one (book 10). You should find the books almost anywhere. Here are some links:
Main official site - http://www.tor.com/jordan/
The pc game - http://www.wheeloftime.com/
Planet Wheel of time (fansite) - http://www.planetwheeloftime.com/

Rama.
"
An all-time science fiction classic, Rendezvous with Rama is also one of Clarke's best novels--it won the Campbell, Hugo, Jupiter, and Nebula Awards. A huge, mysterious, cylindrical object appears in space, swooping in toward the sun. The citizens of the solar system send a ship to investigate before the enigmatic craft, called Rama, disappears. The astronauts given the task of exploring the hollow cylindrical ship are able to decipher some, but definitely not all, of the extraterrestrial vehicle's puzzles. From the ubiquitous trilateral symmetry of its structures to its cylindrical sea and machine-island, Rama's secrets are strange evidence of an advanced civilization. But who, and where, are the Ramans, and what do they want with humans? Perhaps the answer lies with the busily working biots, or the sealed-off buildings, or the inaccessible "southern" half of the enormous cylinder. Rama's unsolved mysteries are tantalizing indeed. Rendezvous with Rama is fast moving, fascinating, and a must-read for science fiction fans. Clarke collaborated with Gentry Lee in writing several Rama sequels, beginning with Rama II.
"
Its a cool read if you liked 2001: a space odyssey. Because 2001 the movie was based off of the rama series, and clarke's short stories.

Tony Hawks - Playing The Moldovans At Tennis
This is the only book I've read at one sitting. I've over-hyped it to friends and they've still loved it. If I ever meet Tony Hawks he owes me a drink for all the sales I've generated for him.
I PROMISE this book will not disappoint.
