First of all, i live quite far from the central (2km) and i have Adsl 2+ which should give me 20mbit, but due to the distance i have 12 or 13. The problem is that everything seems unresponsive lately and when i'm downloading something, i often can't do anything else regardless if i'm maxing out the connection or not. My Isp said something about the modem not being able to handle the connection, which i find really weird and makes no sense due to the speeds coming in is less than what is intended and they only suggest adjusting it down.

Sometimes i only get aprox half my speed and the only solution is to reset my modem and everything works again. Switched modem once after i requested it, but i got the same problem.

My problems has increased much lately which i find weird as i have the same connection speeds i have had for many years now. Constantly refreshing sites and some sites loading half way is pretty damn annoying. When downloading though i always get full speed as long as the modem is not acting up. Hoping tuning down the connection is not the only solution here Sad

download and run pingplotter to the sites you have issues with
check for packet loss and high jitter

ask your isp to send a technician to your place, and ask him to fix the issue

check your contract, there should be a grantee of service clause or something, if you don't get good grade internet, you can usually get compensations

tell them to put the distance in their ass, and put more repeaters/switches on the line to your place
try to get a fiber to your place, they are perfect for extreme long distances where you get to the limit of repeaters

I don't see how they can place more repeaters towards my place. It's air connection if i'm not terribly mistaken. And fiber to my house is impossible due to my house location, and also out of the question due to the prices on the island where i live. Once they just tuned down my speed without notifying me so i called them up and raged at them for doing it without consulting or notifying me first so they tuned it up again. I know if i call them that they will stubbornly suggest doing so again, and they sure as hell won't compensate shit for me. Norway has very bad service and they will never come over here just to help me figure things out. There must be a solution to all this, i just can't see it :@

I will call tomorrow anyway and see what happens.

So i called them a little late Laughing Anyway, they basically told me the modem i'm sitting on is shit and they want to sign me up for another 12 months and send me a free modem that is designed for todays internet traffic.

wait, so your modem is wireless to your house?

damn, rainy days must be a bitch xD

I'd buy my own high-end modem if I was you. Or you could just get in the contract. You said either way that you didn't have any alternative..

My ISP did the same several days ago. I called them three times already asking them to raise the speed back up, but they're acting up and don't want to, saying my line doesn't meet the required parameters.

It had been working just fine before they tuned it down FFS! Mad

ADSL 2+ being wireless? Sounds very weird unless part of the stretch between the main area node and your local node are connected via WiMAX which maxes out at 2/2MBit, so I think you got your vocabulary mixed up. I think it's all copper from you to the closest Fibre-node.

Typical overbooking issues. ISP's always overbook their capacity since they count on people not using the full bandwidth the ISP have at the same time, so they sign up customer:bandwidth with a ratio like 2:1. That means that there are twice as many subscribers as ISP-bandwidth and if overbooking causes issues (ie. their bandwidth to the backbone is suffering, causing crap speed for all which leads to a thousand complaints they can't kick customers since there's a contract, so they lower speeds for everybody to keep congestion to lower levels).

Dirty business.

After making 3 phone calls to them over this week, I decided to try one more time and sent a letter to their Facebook Support Page (lol wut), 10 minutes later I got a message that within 48 hrs they will send a technician to reset my connection speed. I hope this will do the trick. (Keeping fingers crossed.)
