99% of everything you read about SEO is bullshit. You can start at blackhatworld and wickedfire. Just be ready to sift through a lot of crap. Also feel free to pm me with any questions.
The big trick to SEO is doing stuff that makes sense. Friendly URLs obviously help, as do some of the common meta tags (NOT keywords though, they are pretty useless nowadays). Setting things like titles and canonical URLs properly, author tags, meta description etcetera are the basics.
The main thing though? Have good content and structure it appropriately. Use the H1 tag for the main heading, use lower H tags appropriately. Label footers and headers as such properly, make sure your navigation is in a list, that kind of thing.
