Ok, so my dad brought home a PC from a friend at work, because he needed to fix sth (new windows or whatnot), and with it came his Samsung 2233BW.
So for funzies I thought it would be cool to hook it up to my comp and have 2 monitors...
And holy cow, is that monitor crappy or what?!  Blurry, oversaturated colors, not as sharp as my T220.
I mean my T220 is crap, comparing to IPS, but comparing to this it's superb

my 226bw is still going strong repaired once, so far nothing wrong with it.. im guessing the 233 whatever it is, is a fair bit older?

I have an old 225bw as my secondary, replaced the capacitors once but it runs just fine. Way oversaturated though, but more than enough for a secondary screen. I don't think the image quality used to be this bad, it got worse with age, and it's now about 6 years old.

No, because LCD is not a fucking backlight. Any LED TV or monitor is an LCD and TFT monitor. LCD is a panel technology, not a backlight.
"LED" and "LCD" are two entirely separate things and one does not exclude the other. What you meant to try and be a smartass about is CCFL versus LED. Get your facts straight.
And while I'm ranting: plasma still has the advantage when it comes to contrast, but it also still suffers from burn-in a little. More importantly, pixel pitch is still crap as ever, meaning it's not a viable option for sizes under 50". Not much has changed in half a decade.
Meanwhile, LCD technologies have improved loads over the years, with IPS and its cousins fixing the view angle issues. LED quality has improved heaploads and combined with an IPS display, contrast is lots better than it used to be. Response times still lag behind a little, but not much. And the end is not in sight yet.

When you go to a store u can choose between led or lcd.

Not nitpicking.
You don't choose between LED and LCD, at least not over here. It's LCD vs LED LCD, which is accurate enough, but it's not LED vs LCD. Any store advertising like that is a store I wouldn't want to buy from, because clearly they're clueless fucks.
I mean, I may as well call CRT and plasma the same thing then right, since both are essentially fluorescent lamps?

I repleced my 226bw after 5 years for dell u2312hm ips. hood lord. the difference... !!!

My main is LED backlit, but recently I had a fucking shadow semi circle at bottom mid screen and sent it for repair they seem to think its not repairable..... im not so sure.. if you have any thoughts paul and its doable I might give the repair a go myself..
good thing is its not overly bad when gaming as most characters in game are right where the shading is and it just looks like its meant to be there like its the toons shadow in the game lol.
but hell if i look at a white page etc its like a black eye

Nah, that won't be fixable I think. Assuming it's edge lit, you'd have to take the whole fucker apart and start checking where it goes wrong. Good chance it's the TFT going by what you're describing, so your best bet would be to get a refurbished part off Ebay. Not sure whether you can actually find parts like that for regular monitors, it is easy for laptops though (that's how most people fixed their fucked up first-gen 15" MBP LED displays and for popular laptops like Thinkpads you can still find parts for like 10-year old machines).
