That behavior is exactly one of the core points he addresses!

Mostly, yes, but he has some severe fallacies every now and again, still, if everyone had 20% of his reasoning faculties, his rant would be unnecessary.

Indeed! But one thing I wonder: is society really worse than before? The number of dumb people is higher than ever, sure, but the number of smart ones is also higher than ever... We (in the history of mankind) never had so many scientists, academics and highly skilled people.

Do you define smart/dumb by education level or by IQ/EQ levels?

That is a stupid title for anything serious.

Listened all the way to 1:30. I didn't agree with his point on survival and the meaning of life. No going to finish.

I would say the 'dumber' people have more of a voice in the modern world with the internet, even just 20 years ago the stupider someone was the more likely they were to be ignored in most social circles, now thanks to 24/7 news and the power of the internet, especially social networking I dont think a day passes without some really stupid being reported / commented upon in the general media.

I dont think society in itself is any smarter or dumber than it has been in the past.

I didn't want the video, so I dont know if that point has been addressed before, I suspect it will have been.

EDIT /

I also didn't even start the video because I really do have a distaste for anyone ranting about people they perceive as stupid and labeling their opinion as intelligent. He / She is just another example of things that have changed in the past 20 years, a lot has changed for the better alot for the worse.

The fact that you disagree tells nothing about his argument, only about your internal evaluation of morals and values.

That may be true but I don't care about his arguments. It will inevitable make me skip his speach when his starting point is something I do not agree about. I tend not to care about speaches which single people out as dumb because they do not follow his way of thinking. But maybe I will listen some more when I find the time.

I don't, but by all means and standards I think the number of smart people is higher than ever, mostly because there's a ton of people on this planet now.

And if you consider the average man, who has always been an idiot, he probably knows a bit more now than in the past centuries (I mean knowledge about the world, biology, math, etc.). The thing is we could/should be so much better by now, but the masses are asses...

And that is probably the primary point that he attempted to divulge with his rant, the fact that we have devolved to incite reckless and futile behavior, rather than criticize it.

We have not only become numb to the emergence of an infantile civilization, we also glorify it and criticize those who point the facts as they are. In the very same way that you are criticizing in this discussion, you have matured with the notion that everyone is equal, and everyone's ideas and lifestyles should be equally respected, what you forget is that respect is earned, but we live in a society where respect for everything and everyone has become an imposed prerequisite, a society where a disrespectful comment is more shocking than the most infantile and reckless of behaviors.

I agree with some of what he says, even though he derails a lot and starts evaluating a lot of things like music and animal behavior on a very uninformed speculative manner. Animals most definitely care who they mate with (bitches want alphas, and good genetics for instance), this guy needs some basic education.

Electronic music while made with digital instruments (like keyboards) do require a lot of skill to produce music with, some electronic artists (like Liam in the Prodigy) are fucking masters of their work - his generalizations make him seem like a hypocrite.

He also ignores (or is ignorant of) Sociology and how environment influences people and how social structures are formed. For a "well-spoken" man, a lot of his "argument" is mere rhetoric full of pathos, but as they say "Say anything with passion and you get a round of applause".

Furthermore his Maslow-based argument that food, reproduction somehow are lesser because they promote "pleasure" above knowledge is a very Christian point of view, "suffering for our sins" eh. - it is also a false dilemma, you can pursue both pleasure (sex/eat good food) AND knowledge - in fact I would argue that good food and a good sex life will make you a healthier individual, and being healthy is good for the very faculties used to gain knowledge.

Furthermore, his argument that "dumb people" are self-centered and egoistic is false as well, being self-centered is not positively correlated with stupidity. A lot of the world's leaders are self-centered egomaniacs (usually with high IQ and education) but they somehow manage to accomplish a lot of the things this man calls "dumb", they have needs and wants and don't care for who gets hurt by them. But I suppose that the majority of the senate and congress are "dumb" too, well I certainly will not disagree but it is still a" flaw in his argument.

"Intelligent people believe that we are here for the good of society"

Oh please, what a load of bullshit. Intelligent people have different beliefs and convictions stretching in every direction. Again his argument is flawed and his perspective skewed and almost nonsensical. This guy is basically preaching his own dogma, like a religious person and Nhiuewyn is gobbling it up (what an accomplished anarchist).

If it weren't for the fact that he mixed in a lot of overgeneralizations and some complete rants and bullshit nonsense, it would've been good. Stupid people are a nuisance, but unfortunately I think that theblackauth0rity has mistaken himself as one of the non-dumb. The majority of stupid people don't know that they're stupid and him calling people dumb while claiming to use "logic" as some basic stance and at the same time being a serial offender of logical fallacies is ignorant and hypocritical at best. The fact that he also keeps trying to push his own opinions (electronic music is bad, whaaa) through just makes him just another bitter average human being being mad about the other average or less than average people for being different than him, and making stupid life choices. But hey, he posted this shit on YouTube, I would call that pretty stupid.

It's quite well known that dumb people often over-appreciate their own intelligence and believe they're smarter than the average. The intelligent people on the other hand tend to under-appreciate their own intelligence.

Just thought that would be a nice tidbit for this thread.

Most of the points that you addressed were also the fallacies that I referred earlier, perhaps with the exception of music, he is not clear in this regard, but my interpretation of the point that he attempts to make is with regards to the vast majority of what is commonly known as 'MTV music' and all these popular rappers and DJs that produce an album per year and have no understanding of the technical aspects of music.

I'm too dumb to even read your name numhaumpha Wink

But generally, I mostly get annoyed with people ranting on how "stupid" or "sheeple" everyone around them is/are ... Here is a solution, surround yourself with smart people, and do something useful instead of ranting ... live and let live.

In a world where the feeble minded masses are given the power to use the tools of thinkers and engineers to enslave and poison the world, recklessly and frivolously, the only possible choice is between rants or war. Apathy is not a choice, it is the resignation of the intellect and the surrendering of the human mind to the irrational ape within.

I actually absolutely agree, however, I find myself much angrier when trying to confront (rant) about the given issue, because thinking too much about the stupidity of certain aspects of humanity drives me nuts. So, I just go with "Ignorance is bliss"

Think of it this way, if you are intelligent and realize that your surrounding might not be on the level, use it to your advantage rather than point out the lack of common sense in others Wink

i also don't think, that there are more stupid and/or smart people then before. Its just that dumb people aka idiots get a lot more exposure due to social media like youtube, facebook etc.

And same with the smart ones. I doubt the numbers have changed really in the last 100 years.

I made a short stop when it became clear that he actually believes in "Education = Intelligence" which makes himself a part of the problem he's ranting about imho. This made listening to the rest even more enjoyable. Laughing
