Depends!
Risen is more open world. Gameplay wise is better than Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones RPG has a better story and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the gameplay it's not quite it should be. Nevertheless, it's still a very enjoyable game.

They're two completely different games, Risen is focused on gameplay and exploration, GoT is focused mainly on the story/characters. Easily Risen for me.

I know what you said, but... both! Pick one of the two at random now and when you have the money buy the other one. I do think however that if I had the choice I'd go with GoT. It's a great experience, that you won't get by playing any other game. Risen on the other hand, not so much, since you have the first 2 Gothic games that are basically the same thing, but superior in pretty much any way.

Didnt play GOT so far but Risen 1 was really not that great, its not as bad as the second game but its definitely a step down from the gothic games.

RISEN 1 was the true successor to GOTHIC ... so if you liked gothic from 1 to 3 then get this
Game Of Thrones on the other hand is a low budget Mass effect with swords ... and fights that are in this turn based slomo system
i will say take risen 1 if you like a to play Gothic RPGs that have 100+ hours of gametime
or pick Game Of Thrones is you like ME and the book ...
thats it

Risen 1 is basically a modernized, not overly derped Gothic 2. Its a must play if you liked the Gothic series at all.

Until the last chapter that is. The last chapter in Risen, including the final boss, was an abomination.
GoT is similar to SpecOps The Line, and LOK Defiance. Engaging story, shit gameplay.

Acts 1 and 2 of Risen are great and definitely worth playing, but forget about acts 3 and 4. GoT is horrendous.
I'd recommend buying Risen, or, the Witcher 2 is currently priced at 12€ on Steam or GOG. Buy that instead.

Risen is much more known among RPG gamers so naturally it won the poll. GoT has waaaay better story and characters than Risen.
