Overcoming Ego

Seven steps for overcoming ego’s hold on you

1. Stop being offended

2. Let go of your need to win

3. Let go of your need to be right

4. Let go of your need to be superior

5. Let go of your need to have more

6. Let go of identifying yourself on the basis of your achievements

7. Let go of your reputation

Ego is the source of a lot of conflict and dissension because it pushes you in the direction of making other people wrong.

I can let of the need to be right, I can admit my mistakes, but does correcting the mistakes of others make my ego grow as well?

Overcoming being beta

1. Stop trying to be friends with everyone, draw lines

2. Stand up for yourself

3. Never be ashamed of your opinion

4. There is no such thing as equality - someone is better, someone is worse

5. Never be sorry for striving to become a better version of yourself

6. Be proud of what you've accomplished

7. Let go of your reputation

Ego is what separates us as individuals and what drives us. It's not about others being wrong, it's about never apologizing for who you are.

Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

I cannot understand how someone, such as fisk, have such a tremendous synchronicity with my own internal state of being, and at the same time exhibit such a profound disagreement and disdain for the conclusions emergent from those fundamental premises.

Frant, why would anyone want to overcome his Ego?

That is debatable, to an extent. Still, that doesn't answer my question, why would someone want to overcome Ego?

I don't.

Besides, there is a tremendous fallacy in his last statement.

One cannot make other people wrong, this has nothing to do with Ego, everyone is always wrong, all interpretations of truth are subterfuges of truth itself.

Guilty myself of #2 (being a gamer Very Happy), #4, and #5. One of my biggest pet peeves is people that are "offended" all the time. Absolutely can't stand it.

Q Why would someone want to overcome their ego?
A Because they've decided to let their super ego out for a run Laughing

The super ego is where freudians reckon a human's 'sense of decency' or morality resides. Who is to judge whether one human's sense of what is right correctly trumps another human's sense of self? We've all met humans who use their loudly proclaimed 'values' to boost their too self-reverential identity, and its not a pretty sight.

So be a real human, live in your id. When you get an overwhelming urge to screw something / someone that/who you don't want yer mates to see you with or who you really don't care for she/he/it - you just wanna bounce bones together, ignore any concerns about yer reputation or those potential feelings of guilt. Hop aboard! You only live once may as well do what you want to now - lest you never get another chance.

And that is the problem with Freudian thinking, which criteria determines the logical validity of your definition of 'real human'? Human is nothing but a physiological descriptor, all subjective values and conscious constructs are ideals, and all ideals are fallacies of rationality.

Of course hence my irony.
When I was a student (third quarter of the 20th century) being an 'egotripper' was the worst epithet to have hurled at you. And yet most of those accusing others of placing their ego or reputation above other concerns were ego-tripping themselves, they were trying to enhance their 'cred' at the expense of anothers.

That movie 'revolver' which epilogue featured rants from a bucket list of c grade celebrities all heaping shit on a person's ego, seems to have inspired another generation of too credulous bourgoisie into believing that the meek shall inherit the earth.
